  1. Yes i travelled alone last year alone..I went to Vilnius the capital and found it much better then you read or hear about.. I felt safe there.. And is the centre (old town) is well sign posted for the tourist sites.. I went for 7 day in Dec i advise against this as the coldest night dropped to -23c this is normal for the country in  winter.. With roads full of ice & snow it made it impossible to walk around almost.. The KGB museum as must! if you like history, and the upper castle where you can get a great view over the city a little.. There is great night life and clubs just like any other city.. If your looking for something different then Lithuania is a good choice even to see once..Remember some of there hotels can be a little behind western standards so choose carefully.. Check the links out for more info...

  7. I have been there loads of times, though not doing the touristy things much.

A lot has changed since I started going and it's rather safer now. You can buy just about everything you can at home. Except in restaurants and banks, etc, don't expect to see much English.

Summer temperature rarely gets above 80 deg F, but it can be bitterly cold in Winter.

It's cheap to eat out and you must try the national specialities, though  for the most part they are not for anyone on a diet. Do tip the waiting staff as their pay is very small.

Good (mostly), cheap, lager-style beer available everywhere including little road-side kiosks.

There is still a bit of the 'English = rich' syndrome in existence. Look after your things the same as anywhere else in a crowd or any public place.

Great public transport, bus routes and mini-buses.

Lithuanians do things on a small scale, usually, but are very good at what they do, and celebrate it proudly.

They produce ace basketball players. Almost every small communal area has a hoop fixed to a wall, somewhere.

Lithuania has never been part of Russia. It was an independent country before it was occupied by the Soviet army to be part of the USSR, just like other parts of Eastern Europe.

Lots of things to see but you must see the dunes on the coast.

Of course there's a lot more to say. You can ask on more specific things if you want.
