  1. I went to Madrid this January, and it was beautiful.  I'd also been twice before and it's a great place to walk around, eat, drink, dance, and walk through parks and museums.

Get a hotel near Metro stops Sol, Tribunal, Opera, or Chueca.

It's a big city, but you don't need to explore all the residential areas.  Read up on monuments and museums to see if they are interesting to you.  I was happy exploring the streets, markets, bars, restaurants, parks and clubs.  So the only museum I went in was the Prado.

  2. I think that Madrid is worthwhile if you like museums (Museo del Prado). If not, you should go instead to Barcelona or Sevilla, which are more interesting cities. The landscape around Madrid is dry and flat, the weather is too hot in summer and too cold in winter and the city is a favourite for terrorist attacks. And Spain has much more interesting places to offer, where you can spend wonderful holidays. I'm not spanish, so you can take my opinion as sincere.

    Atinado

  3. Mate of mine went there a few years back and said it was a dump!  Never been there myself though.

  4. very lovely :)

  5. Yes - I really enjoyed it when we went.  We were lucky enough to be there for the royal wedding a couple of years ago and they really went to town with the decorations around the place.  Food out there is lovely, the shopping is brilliant and there are loads of lovely parks.  The place is like a cleaner, brighter, friendlier London.  And it has some beautiful buildings.

  6. Not Madrid, but I have been to Malaga and Marbella.  Both are on the Costa del Sol ("Sun Coast") and although the towns themselves aren't much, the landscape and scenery is, and I suspect as much for Madrid.

It's great fun to go through, particularly if you can find a local celebration or something - instead of the "guided tours" I just walked the city and came across a local celebration/dance that was just wondrous, and not the sort of thing you would find on a tour.

    Go, and enjoy!
