  1. Wow!   I just did a search.  I thought, wow, I've never heard of this place, but we were within spitting distance last summer!  We went to Peñafiel and Cuéllar to visit the castles there.

The region is literally strewn with castles, some of them quite famous.  There were lots of flat valleys, but you´re near Segovia, which is in the foothills, and can get pretty cold in the winter.  We had to bring jackets for the morning even in the summer.  (It gets quite chilly at night in the center of the country, even in summertime).

Lots of vineyards, and we could see fields of ... who knows what, I think it was wheat, from the hill that Peñafiel castle is on.  If you´d like, you can check out my photos...flickr/spayer1

Go into collections, then sets, and click on the tile that says Segovia.  It was at the end of that day that we went.  It won´t give you Roa, but Roa to Peñafiel was about 10 miles, so it´ll give you a reasonable idea.

Looks like about 2 hours from Madrid.

  2. All I know about the area is that it is a great wine growing region. It will be cold in winter but summer should be wonderful. I´ve been close by in Burgos but not in Roa.
