  1. Near beach - Hua Hin

    Far beach - Phuket/Krabi

  2. Yes. i recently went to Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand, close to the border and it was fantastic. The place is beautiful and we stayed in the Four Seasons which is an amazing hotel. We went elephant riding in the jungle and white water rafting in the mountains. The people are so friendly and polite. The city of Chiang Mai is quite busy but nothing what a city shouldn't be. The famous Night Market is not to be missed! The Four seasons is about 10-15 minutes outside the city centre and is set among the rice paddy fields. It is so peaceful. If you are looking for a more lively place, especially at night then i would suggest staying a bit further into the town. We stayed there for 10 days, which suited us, but next time we would have liked to travel around a bit more, seeing places like Chiang Rai and The Golden Triangle. We flew from London to Bangkok and then got a connecting flight from there. We went in late March, early April and the weather was very hot but bearable. At night the temperature didn't seem to drop and you could go out wearing shorts and T-shirts!  I hope this helps

    Regards

  3. There are tons of places to go! I'm a city girl so I prefer Bangkapi, but if you want to go to a beach, go to Rayong. It's very beautiful and nice and there aren't many foreigners around because they don't know about it.

  4. Agreed with Tommy S , I stay in Bangkok Thailand for almost 5 years.

I would recommend Lanta Isand ,nice and beautiful scenery ,I even bought a piece of land there to built a vacation house.

  5. I've lived here in Thailand for 3 years. I love the country and the women (2 much actually) who are very accommodating to say the least. Since being here, I now have 2 kids and another on the way. I move around a lot,( I have 2 ) and, visited most of the mainland, also all the islands. Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and places like that, are a mans Paradise. Doing all these places has made me tired now needing a rest before I contemplate a return gig.I put an add in the local papers to route out prospective play mates getting many replies. it went something like this .....I would like to present myself as a prospective lover. Our love affair would be on probation for a period of three months and depending on compatibility, (risk assessments, domestic skills, qualifications held,) can I even contemplate any worthwhile involvement. Your achievements need to be totally scrutinised, ‘before being considered’ a suitable candidate, on any permanent basis aspect for this post.

Of course, upon completion of probation, there will be continuous on the job training and performance appraisal schemes, leading up to promotion from lover to spouse. Remember love is blind -- marriage is the eye-opener. Love at first sight is possible, but it pays to take a second look.... the candidates left me somewhat exhausted.... especially the naked interviews....Phew

Depending on what your looking for, Thailand has it waiting.

I'm not going back home to my country now as my lifestyle is to easy here. Hope this answers your question.

  6. Phuket for the beach - there are plenty of beaches to pick from to stay at. It's good if you want to party, but it's also good if you want a quieter or a more family orientated holiday. It's not impossible to find a spot on a beach all to yourself. Sightseeing is quite good too.

If you want somewhere more laidback I suggest Koh Phangan. Krabi is great for rockclimbing and scenery (Railay Beach especially). And from Krabi or Phuket you can connect to Phi Phi Island and Phang Nga Bay.

Bangkok - for the big city, shopping, sightseeing and general tourist fare.

Sukhothai - about a 5-6 hour bus ride from Bangkok. Go there for the Historical park and ancient ruins. Very pretty there.

Ayutthaya - more historical ruins and temples. Not as spectacular as Sukhothai but better preserved. You can do this on a day trip from Bangkok (about 1.5hr by bus or train)

Kanchanaburi - for history, war memorials, tiger temple and beautiful scenery (such as Erawan Falls). Beautiful area and great if you hire your own car or bike and sightsee for a couple of days. It's a 2 hour trip by bus from Bangkok (Southern Bus terminal) or a mini bus from Khao San road.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck :)

  8. Thailand is a very big country, and there is a lot of variety in the place.  Your question will only get answers from people who had good or bad experiences--and you cannot necessarily be guided by the preferences of another.

I would suggest that do you considerable Internet research before deciding where to go.

  9. If you can avoid bangkok then you're really not missing much.

Go to Phuket or Ko Samui.

And if  you go to Phuket, make sure you take a day trip to Phi Phi islands(where the movie with Leo Decaprio 'The Beach' was filmed). Its breathtaking.

  10. if you want to visit a nice beach, I'd recommend Koh Samui http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Koh%20... . It is one of the diver's haven. The warm, tropical waters and beautiful coral reefs off the island make it perfect for scuba diving. Go on the full day speedboat trip to Koh Ang Thong Marine Park. I enjoyed snorkeling, kayaking and trekking to emerald lake (amazing!). Ang Thong was the place that inspired the film "The Beach" and is paradise on earth.

I strongly recommend Muang Samui Spa Resort to anyone - whether you are a young couple, a retired couple and a family. It will meet all needs! The location was perfect with all shopping, bars and restaurants at your doorstep, and provided a tranquil and dreamy escape from the day-to-day world. It is also set on a more beautiful stretch of beach. The rooms themselves were large, stylish, clean and had all the special touches. The resort is well maintained, is filled with beautiful greenery, little bridges and a creek running thru it. We found that the staff were always friendly and attentive. The breakfasts were also sensational. http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels...

    Have a nice trip!

  11. Bangkok and Chiang Mai for shopping and sight seeing. Chiang Rai for touring the Golden Triangle, Hill Tribes and sight seeing. Phuket and Koh Samui for their beaches and Pattaya for the happening!!!

  12. "Has anyone been to Thailand?"

Short answer is yes - millions of people visit Thailand every year!

You can get lots of recommendations but will they be what you are looking for?   What are you looking for anyway?  Do you want a beach type vacation - well you can find some good beaches in Thailand!   But don't waste all of your time at a beach because you can find beaches in lots of countries, maybe even your own country!

If you come to Thailand also take some time to visit Bangkok and take some tours.  Also, perhaps take a trip to Chiang Mai and experience what makes Thailand unique from your own country.  Thailand is pretty big and there is lots of variety in what you can find to do.

Before you leave home you have to figure out how much you can afford.  How much you have to spend on hotel rooms will determine which hotels are recommended to you. How much you can afford will influence where you can go and the type of transportation.  When you go may determine if you  pay more or less for your international flights and hotels. You can go cheap and you can spend a lot - up to you!  Read up on Thailand and see what interests you and then plan your trip around your interests.  You can find travel guides in libraries that you can check out and study at in your house.  Plan ahead and the trip will be more meaningful.
