  1. I'm French and yes Versailles is beautiful. It is quite far though, and I suggest that you wake up early and be there by 8 in the morning as the line gets very long.

Aside from the main palace which was recently renovated, there are plenty gardens, as well as the Trianon.

The Trianon is where Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France stayed during her free time. It is composed of a lake, and two mini castles.

You should prioritize the Main Palace, take the train to the Trianon, DO NOT GO BY FOOT as it will kill you! :)) You can also go by golf car, but usually the line is long, so you must plan ahead.

There are also the least important areas, such as the dauphin's quarters or the crowned princes and their brothers.

The garden is very beautiful and vast! Bring walking shoes.

If you decide to go to Versailles by taxi, it's alright.

But if you decide to go by RER or the subway, you must be prepared to take a long walk before you reach the palace gate. It is also pretty steep at some points.

There are stores around the area such as Benneton.

  2. I recently went to Versailles this summer.  Yes, it is very gorgeous and it can be fun if you appreciate history.  The gardens are lovely and the hall of mirrors was just refurbished.  However, it is super crowded and expect logn lines and crowds everywhere.  If you have been to one palace you have pretty much seen them all.

  3. It was incredible. If you plan to go here are some tips:

    1. Set aside an entire day. Other than the main palace itself, there are plenty of gardens, smaller palaces and a little farm village to see. You wont fit it in in a two hour trip.

    2. Wear walking shoes! The grounds are enormous and unless you want to spend lots of money to rent a little golf cart that has limited access to things and you only have for an hour or so, you will be walking a lot.

    3. If you are in Paris, the easiest way to get to Versailles is the train that goes out there that you can access from any major train station.

    4. Buy/ bring a book about Versailles (if you dont plan on taking a tour). Its interesting to look at, but even more interesting to hear the crazy things that happened there.

    5. Bring lots of film or a digital camera. Its a beautiful place, and take lots of pictures!

    Have fun and happy travels.

  4. Yes.  It was incredibly beautiful.
