We are a couple in our 50's who like our holidays reasonably quiet, but not too quiet. We are both disabled so need to be able to get around easily.

  1. my father's uncle lives on Lake Garda! ;)

  2. Ive been to Como thats beutiful, all though theres a fair bit of steep walking.

  3. Garda is a beautiful location for a holiday and can be as quiet as you like.  You can drive all round the lake quite easily and all the villages are reasonably easy to navigate.  Campsites tend to be either on sloped sites down to the lake or in 'steps' on the hills around the lake.

The further North you go the hillier it is - the Southern end of the lake is much flatter.  It can be terribly cold first thing and last thing - but the weather is not too bad given you are so close the the mountains.  When it is hot it is REALLY hot - lake breezes keep it bearable.

Loads to do and see and the food is fabulous.  We are going there again at the end of August this year and can't wait!!.  We have rather fond memories (were there 2 years ago and two years before that) as our twins were conceived there!!!

The people are friendly, public transport is cheap and regular and there is a great train service elsewhere in Italy (Milan, Florence and Venice to name but a few).  Hope you enjoy it X

PS:  www.gardalake.it is a handy website.

  4. Lake Garda, like all the northern Italian lakes, is beautiful. My favourite place is up in the northern part where you have the mountains as a backdrop - Riva being a fav, also Malcesni. Near enough to do a brill day trip into the Dolomites, one of my most favourite places.

  5. Hello there I know Lake Garda like the back of my pockets as I've lived 15 miles from it for 24 years before moving to Wales so mine is advice you can trust...there's plenty of places quite on lake Garda but also these places can be busy too...reason is cos most of the villages ofeer accomodations in "virtually secluded areas" but not far at all from centre and shops...I don't know what kind of disabilities you're affected from, but if you are a wheelchair user or you have walking disabilities the you need to go somewhere central with a good infrastructure and the best place would be Desenzano del Garda. Located at the south coast Desenzano is on the main line running beetween Milan and Venice so trips to Verona Venice are much easier compare to the resorts located at the north of the lake, not only the resorts further north are incredibli beautiful but they preserve their ancient look so you can imagine steep narrow streets cobbled so a bit of a pain to get around if you have some difficulties...that doesn't mean you can't get to see these places cos from desenzano's port you can get to the fantastin Sirmione peninsula by boat in 10 minutes, then from sirmione you can reach virtually every resort on the lake for a day out by boat. The tourist info office is central to the main square so if you have any queries is there for you...english spoken widly now it use to be mainly German but that has changed. I could go on and on but i prefer to give you the chance to evaluate the other answers and if you want you can e-mail me at any time and I can give you all the hints you need to know. Hope you will decide to go it is always a matter of pride for me knowing that people from the UK choose to go on holidays in my country.

  6. The whole Lake Garda area is very pretty and you will enjoy it. I do not know Garda personally but I know many of the other cities  around the lake and they are quite flat and manageable. Garda should be the same so I know you will love it
