Has anyone bought a new iron set lately?

I got a Christmas bonus and am heading to the pro shop to get fitted for a new set of irons on Jan. 22nd. I plan on hitting as many brands as they have available until I find something that suits me.

I'm especially interested in hitting all the irons that got gold stars Golf Digest's Hot List for 2008 (Callaway X20, Ping G10, Taylor Made R7, etc.....)

Has anyone bought one of the sets on this year's Hot List? If yes, would you mind giving a review?

Here's links to the game-improvement & super game-improvement irons.

  1. I have taken a few swings with the Ping G10. I wish I had gotten a bonus so I could a set :-)

  2. im using the taylormade R7 irons, they are good, they are easy to launch and they are soft, very nice clubs, i love it a lot!

  3. I have The mizuno MX-23, not on the list, but it proves to me that mizuno makes the best game improvement clubs out there. I would have to become a scratch player to want to give these clubs up, and if i got there, why change. Mizuno is top of the line. Look into the mp-57. Ive never heard anyone say they aren't like hitting a stick of butter.

  4. I'm a player that likes traditional looks in irons. The Mizuno MP 57 impressed me. I like minimal offset and rounded toes. The composition of the club head gave immediate feed back. Swing weight is consistent and comfortable throughout the set. The sole is complimented with a rolled leading edge that aids in working the ball.

  5. I like that Mizuno statement, Ive heard great things about those clubs specifically the great trajectory from them. I prefer Cleveland, the CG clubs are pretty d**n good clubs. Good luck.
