If so how much did you save versus buying a regular one?

How easy was it to do ?

My hubby has carpentry skills, he built houses for a few years.

I also asked this in the DIY section, but I figured the mommys could give me some good answers. Thanks!

  1. It's more cheaper, but harder to build! I would buy the ready made one.

  2. We didn't do ours with a DIY kit, we just bought the wood/hardware and then bought the swings separately. We saved LOADS of money doing it this way, I think as much as 50% on it! It's really durable too. It was built 15 years ago as a 4th birthday present for my sister and 2nd birthday present for me, and it's still up and is still usable. However, we do have to take it down/move it as the big tree that it sits under needs to be cut down (it's a 45 foot tall, 65 year old maple tree that was planted when the house was built back in 1943) because 3 large limbs crashed down in a tornado two weeks ago.

  3. My hubby built one for my kids....it depends on what DYI set you buy. Go to this website and you can find free plans, all you have to do is buy the wood and materials. It is cheaper than a DYI kit cause....well, it's free! For about $100 you can get a cheap, flimsy one at Wal-Mart but for the same price you can build a bigger, safer and better one yourself.
