Has anyone created their own bouquets? How hard is it?

My mom wants to create mine and my bridesmaids' flower bouquets for my wedding, but I'm worried in terms of time (since she's mother of the bride, she'll be pretty busy) and whether she can compile them ahead of time. Any tips?

  1. i had fake flowers and you couldn't tell the different and i had them done weeks before the wedding

  2. well it is not a hard job. it will take between 2-3 hours depending on the size of your wedding. all you have to do is put the greenery round the outside and the flowers in the middle... i could really use some more info like how many bridesmaids... what type of bouquet?

    good luck =D

  3. We just tried this last week. The flowers were ordered online while in advance. We had a large area to keep the flowers at a very cool temperature. The center pieces were very easy. Just drop the flower into the vase. The bouquets were another story. After several hours and many people the roses were breaking and turning brown. In the end… the morning of the wedding the bride was rushing around looking for more flowers. She lucked out and found a flower delivery vendor at that local Costco who did all the bouquets for very inexpensive and very quickly. They turned out perfect. This wedding was very formal and elegant and the flowers were perfect. On my special day I would not want to be stressed about my flowers.

  4. My mom made my bouquet- tied some wild flowers together with some ribbon. It was so simple and perfect.

  5. I don't think it will take much time at all. Go online and find instructions to make bouquets and practice on some cheap flowers to get an idea of time... Good luck!

  6. Creating your own bouquets is easier than you'd think, especially if you're creative.  If your mom thinks she can do it tell her it probably takes an average of an hour per bouquet when you factor in prep time, assembly and final decoration (ie. ribbon, etc.).  I have created bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, etc. for several friends' weddings and though it can be time consuming there is a huge cost savings.  Here's a few quick tips to help make things go quickly:

    - Order the flowers far enough ahead so that your supplier will be sure to have what you want.  I have used Sam's Club on multiple occasions and they only required me to order them about a week or two in advance.

    - Pick up the flowers 48 to 36 hours before the wedding.  Take them home and immediately prep them by cutting off about 1/2 an inch off the bottom of the stems and placing them in water along with the floral preservant that usually comes along with the bulk flowers.

    - Keep them cool and in the water until about 16 hours before you'll need them/the wedding.

    - The night before the wedding assemble the bouquets using floral tape & wire.  Leave the stems long so that you can still keep them in water until the next morning.

    - The morning of the wedding snip off the stems to the same length and wrap with ribbon for a dramatic effect.  (Use coursage pins to hold the ribbon in place.)

    - Keep cool until the wedding.

I hope this helps!  Congratulations & good luck!
