  1. I am not going anywhere this Summer!

  2. Yes but its not helping.I didn't get my dog groomed,I didn't get the one fixed yet(but I will) I haven't rented a movie in 4 months,I gave up Wednesday nite pizza, buying cheaper dog food.I did get the flea meds.Other than to buy groceries and pay bills haven't been anywhere in 3 weeks. What is left to give up? I don't do alot of things in any given month.Forget shopping haven't been since Christmas. And I am out of propane,I don't think I can do without that.So to answer your question yes cutting back everywhere and see no light at the end of the tunnel.I really hope it gets some better I really need to go camping and just forget about it all but we are already talking about we may have to give that up too this year.I think I'll just give up driving all those other things seem more fun ha ha.

  3. I don't think anyone has cut back on spending, they are spending the same amount of money. The problem is that it is being spent primarily for gas and food instead of luxuries.

  4. the reason i'm not buying gas is not out of protest, but literally not being able to afford it. until politicians vote to give these huge oil companies windfall taxes, i'm thinking that they are ALL in bed together. no more going out to eat, no more luxury drives, other than the corner store, my car stays parked.

  5. No question. I volunteer for some groups and I have quit agreeing to drive long distances for them.

  6. Yes. I used to commute now I work from home. I unplug things, I watch how much water I use. I am very careful.

  7. I don't get this.  How does a society get to the point where buying gas comes before buying other things...even food?  Why don't people cut back on their driving?

  8. I'd like to see McCain bring the prices down and go with my MAMC non-fossil fueled vehicle

( http://www.betterconstructed.com ), but the crude prices have always been relative to food prices of the era.

    Until now.

Perhaps this will cause some people to quit smoking!

  9. whats left to cut back on?

got rid of satelite tv 2 yrs ago ---- fifty bucks a month to flip channels  .not me

didnt get my golf membership this year --- cant afford the gas to get to the coarse enough to make the membership worth the money

20 miles to work 20 miles home- rural america .closest coworker to ride together with likes to stop for a cold one after work and i quit drinking in 2000 ( we used to ride together and sometimes it took hours to get home!!)

Owe too much on my truck to trade it in on an economical ride

I'm a single dad with a kid starting college this fall !

my solution to the out of control economy--

    Overtime,never turn it down

house painting jobs on the side---started doing this last summer when the OT wasnt available, it pays well if you dont mind working hard

truck doesnt leave the driveway unless im going to work or to paint(thank god my brother bought a big old house that needs scraping and painting!)

and if i work myself to an early grave ,my 401K hopefully covers my kids college

  10. I don't have anything else to cut back on.  The extra money is going to gas.  I carry my lunch instead of eating out, I'm very selective on the price of clothes and shoes so they are almost always on sale.  I stop at the stores on the way home from work instead of waiting until the weekend.

The biggest change I was able to make this year was getting a credit card at a very very low interest rate.  I transferred my balances to that account and reduced my monthly payments by $225.   I pay more than the minimum balance because I want to pay off in three years.  I'm also saving to purchase a new car in 2010. Lastly, I'm contributing $20 more into my IRA.  I have a bank debit card that I use solely for gas.  I've actually called in sick once because it was two day before pay day and I was nearly out of gas money. So I stayed home to save.
