  1. Once a certain amount of time has passed, called the statute of limitations, they are powerless to take legal action against you. All they can to is try to scare/annoy you into paying. If it's been 7 years, the statute of limitations has most likely passed unless you live in Wyoming, where it's 8 years.

Send them a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt stating:

Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting:

    - written validation of this alleged debt and that said alleged debt is within the statute of limitations

    - Cease all verbal communications with me about this alleged debt.

Read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and understand your rights:

  2. didnt answer the phone to them they sued me

  3. yes, the best thing to do is start a payment schedule with them and maintain payments. If the bill is close to seven years old settle the payment for less than it actuall is, it will dissapear off of your credit after the seventh year. If you just went in to collections and your no where near the 7th year pay the whole thing,   it looks better on your credit.

  4. Yes take the attitude that it's a war and that you will make it as miserable for those bottom feeders as you can.
