Question:

Has anyone done the student rush ticket deal for Legally Blonde the Musical on Broadway?

If you have, I have a few questions. FIrst of all, do they always give some away... or do they occasionally sell out and not sell any student rush tickets? Also, how early would you recommend getting in line to the theatre in the morning. Would 5 am be early enough? My last question - where in the theatre do they put you? Is there a specific 'student rush' section.. or do they just sell some leftover tickets?

Any information/ experiences would be helpful.. I'm trying to plan a trip and I'm debating buying tickets ahead of time or just doing student rush. Thanks! :)

  1. I haven't seen it, but I did do student rush for Wicked, Chicago, and Spelling Bee. Some do student rush everyday and some do a lottery. Wicked was by lottery and lots of people enter. Hairspray was the same way, and we couldn't ever win for Hairspray.

You should definitely do student rush if it is available it is so much cheaper and just as good of an experience. You have to bring a student ID and you can only get 2 tickets with your ID. They are usually around $26. They are always front row seats.

5 am is wayyyy too early. Most shows you can only sign up for the lottery 1-2 hours before showtime, or purchase student rush tickets 1-2 hours prior as well. Usually the box office opens at 11 am, on matinee days any way which is Weds., Sat., and Sund. All other days, there is only an evening performance. Plus there is not going to be a big line of people waiting. This isn't one of the major broadway hits that people are trying to get into right at this moment. It's been there for awhile, so you should have no problem getting rush tickets.

I've seen 3 broadway shows, all using student rush tickets.

Actually I just looked it up for you and here is the info you need, it looks like you can get rush tickets without a lottery:

Palace Theatre, 1564 Broadway (Between 46th and 47th Streets)

Running Time: 2 hours 30 minutes, with one intermission

Performances: Wed 2:00 pm, Wed 8:00 pm, Th 8:00 pm, Fri 8:00 pm, Sat 2:00 pm, Sat 8:00 pm, Sun 2:00 pm, Sun 7:00 pm

RUSH Subject to availability, rush tickets are sold at the box office, when it opens, on the day of the performance. The tickets are $26.50 each, a valid student ID is required, and 2 tickets are sold per person.

  2. I did Student Rush for Legally Blonde last summer. It is the price as stated before, but you do have to be a college student to rush it on Broadway. They always have student rush. :) 5 AM is wayyy too early- we went at 7 AM on a Friday (it was the 5th of July, so I'd suggest to go around the same time) and they gave around 24 tickets. If they have more tickets, they'll keep on selling tickets. The seats are the first 2 rows of the theater and are amazing! You can see everything but shoes and the dogs at some points.

Last summer I went and only bought tickets for 2 shows (Mary Poppins and Les Miz) and ended up seeing 3 other shows while I was there (Wicked (won lotto), Hairspray (student rush- but also have lotto) and Legally Blonde (student rush)) Here's a great site that can help you with rushing and lottoing: http://www.playbill.com/celebritybuzz/ar...

Good luck and enjoy the shows!!

  3. Legally Blonde Student Rush is $26.50 per ticket.

You can start lining up 5 minutes before the box office opens on a weekday. Box Office opens at 10 am Wednesday-Saturday. Monday and Tuesday is dark. Sunday it opens 12pm.

On a weekend you have to be there half an hour before the box office opens. But since it's summer, just to be safe, be there at least an hour early.

All tickets are front row. They sell 24 student rush tickets every show except on a special holiday schedule.

Student IDs checked when you purchase and when you enter the theatre. 2 tickets per student.

Legally Blonde SR tix is relatively easy to get. I don't know how it is this summer. I figure there'll be a lot of people wanting to see Bailey.

    SPRING AWAKENING -

Same policy as Legally Blonde. Tickets sold when the box office opens. I'd line up even earlier for Spring Awakening because it's a student favorite. When I saw it last year, we arrived 8am and there were already a long line ahead of us.

    Tickets $27. Student ID required.
