Question:

Has anyone done their CBT with Shires? A few questions anyway...?

Hi there, I've just applied for my provisional motorcycle license. I've just turned sixteen and I will be taking my motorcycle CBT at Shires West Bridgford, Nottingham.

I just had a few questions if anyone would mind helping me?

1/ Has anyone taken their CBT with shires, is it good, whats it like? Any bad points?

2/ Does anyone know if Shires do one to one CBT training as I'm fairly nervous, I'm going straight for a geared 50cc; I'm sure I'll get used to it anyway. It's just that it would help my confidence if I did it one to one.

3/ Is anyone aware of any companies who carry out one to one CBT training?

I'd appreciate it if anyone could get back to me.

Thanks.

Query.

  1. Did you have any luck with links?.

  2. I don't know anything specific about Shires but all CBT trainers want you to pass, they face nervous riders every day and will be able to put you at your ease, if they realise that you are struggling they will give you one to one generally. Get a good night's sleep before have a light breakfast and turn up early, you will need to concentrate throughout the training, the fewer distractions the better.

  3. 1) I live in Dorset so didn't do my CBT with Shires but currently training to become an instructor

    2) The majority of training schools will offer one to one courses but alot will charge extra as they will have to reserve an instructor, who could teach 4 CBTs in one day, just for you and one of their sites.

If you are nervous, let the school know. It is always a good idea to try the geared bike first but if you don't get along with the gears you can always ask them if you can go to a twist and go (automatic) - they may tell you to book another CBT and you will still be allowed to ride a geared bike once you have passed and some schools will offer extra gear lessons once you have done your CBT if you did complete on an automatic (they will most likely charge extra)

The good thing about booking one to one is you won't feel rushed into moving on by other pupils nor feel as pressured. Alot of people I have taught have found pressured as the other pupils have progressed alot faster than they have - which can end up in the pupil becoming more nervous and sometimes ends up having to quit and re-book for a one to one. If you didn't book one to one then any decent instructor will only move on to the next part when EVERYONE is ready and they move by the slowest progressing pupil.

    3) The training school I work for offers one to one training on a Monday to Friday basis but we are based in Dorset so thats too far for you to go. If you go to this website http://www.begin-motorcycling.co.uk/c_no... you can find other training school in your area.

Feel free to email me if you need anymore info

    Good Luck
