We have a cat that found his way under our house and when we got him out we kind of liked him so now the little guy is living in our house. But he has fleas! And we were told that he is too young to use a flea bath or medicine on him.

If dawn doesn't work can you make a suggestion or two?

Thank you,

  1. dawn does work

It is the best stuff it paralzes the fleas and dawn is gentle on kittens dawn is used on sea creatures if they were ina n oil spill dawn works great and something else is take the kitten to the vet and they can give oyu flea medicine approrit for its size

  2. Flea brush and vet visit?? And monthly Revolution medicine couldn't hurt.

  3. When it comes to kittens the only sure fire way to rid them of fleas is to comb, comb and comb.  Remember fleas can make a kitten anemic very quickly.  Some people use rubbing alcohol in a cup to kill the fleas on the comb, if you do this make sure the comb is dry before combing the kitten, I use three combs and have a helper to dip, clean and dry them so I can keep combing.  You might do well to take it to a vet for a check up and see if they can bath the kitten for you, this will cost you but could be worth it and at the same time the kitten can be dewormed.

  4. Dawn works wonders.  My vet also recommends Baby Shampoo.  It kills fleas and also wont burn their eyes.

Do NOT use Frontline.  It is a waste of money.  Fleas and ticks are getting immune to it.  I bought it and put on my dogs and cats and it didnt do a dang thing.  Got Advantix and dead fleas every where!

I have used both Dawn and Baby SHampoo with amazing results.  Good luck.

  5. Dawn is really good to use on a young kitten, especially one that has been outside. It won't harm them at all (I use dawn as a prewash on all of my dogs when they get really dirty). I do agree about looking into kitten flea medications though.

  6. Yes, but you have to make sure you get it rinsed off really well. It could harm them if not.

If you rather use something with less work, use advantage. The vet told me it works wonders, she said it will also get the fleas out of the whole house just by using it on your cat.

  7. NO NO NO dawn on the kitty!! I am sure you heard if you put a desk lamp over a pie tin or shallow dish of water with dawn it the fleas will jump to the light and land in the water and the dawn will coat them and drown them. DON'T PUT IT ON THE KITTY. I took that exact idea about fleas jumping to the light and did this, no water no dawn only this.. GOOD LUCK

How I got rid of fleas and bugs from my home

You will need to purchase a simple bug/fly zapper; the type you use on a patio to kill flying insects.  You can buy a small one that will cover a large area of your house at most home improvement stores for as little as 15.00-20.00 dollars.  For faster results you can use one bug zapper for each room.  However the fleas do gravitate to the bug zapper’s light once night sets in and all the lights in your house are out. So one should work for a small home, just make sure to place it in the room where the most fleas are seen or felt.   Place the zapper on the floor in a corner behind a piece of furniture so kids and pets won’t play with or bother it. Set it on a plate or pie tin for easy cleaning up of the zapped bugs, you will be killing all bugs in your home as well, and then plug it in.  Remember, it is a piece of electrical equipment.  You have to use caution in where you put it. At night the fleas automatically want to go to a light, when they hop in to the bug zapper light they get fried! You can actually hear little, zits, zits when the fleas are getting zapped! All GONE! Keep the carpet vacuumed daily until your flea problem is under control, this will help tremendously in getting the fleas eggs out of your home and carpet faster!!  I am not responsible for misuse of the above item.  Use full caution in placing your bug zapper to the safest place.  It will work for months, even years; it will continue to kill bugs in your home as long as the light is on.  The bulb can be replaced once it burns out.  The light bulb can be purchased at most home improvement stores.

  8. Yes, Dawn works.  Make sure it's the regular yellow Dawn, and make sure you blow dry him on low afterwards until he's totally dry so he doesn't catch a chill.

  9. I used blue Dawn on my cats and gave them a bath (boy was it pathetic). I only did this as I was waiting on my Frontline to be delivered from Ebay. I recommend Frontline, just do a quick ebay search for it and you'll find great prices. Make sures its a respected buyer. Shipping was quick when I bought and the fleas went away immediately.

Wash everything, vacuum all around, and just keep an eye out for those lil buggers. Good luck.

  10. I wouldn't try it as for it has only been used on wild birds for oil spills. How old is the little guy? If you use Frontline on him then the age is 8 weeks and older. I would use Frontline on him if he is in need of it badly and he is over 8 weeks old and it is a liquid medication. Although, The fleas will not die until they bite the skin of the cat and that may take 3-4 weeks but it may take longer if he is an outdoor cat.

~Hope This Helps! Good Luck with him!

  11. yep, dawn works, I have used it on my cats! however, they do make medicated cat shampoos for kittens, so you might want to check on those.
