Question:

Has anyone else been disappointed with Nike Sportband?

I was taken in by the Nike marketing machine recently and decided to buy a Nike Sportband, a clever gadget that allows me to compete against runners all over the world via the Nike web-site. Dismissed as a money-making ploy by my partner, I maintained it was a great idea. It cost me £40 and I have been able to enter, for free, a worldwide 10k race at the end of August. However, I've just taken delivery of my shiney new sportband and find I need special Nike shoes in order to use the sensor (aka pedometer).

This wasn't made clear at all and, as I don't want to go to more expense, I'd rather return the band and forget the whole idea. However I can't 'process my own refund' as advertised on their web-site as they can't find my order on their database - argh! - and I can't even log into my account online as a technical glitch prevents me from typing in the text boxes - argh argh! I just want my money back now, but I face an anonymous wall.

Has anyone else had similar experience?

  1. I am not impressed with it either. It is a one sport device, and quite expensive for that (I went for a GPS watch which can do other sports such as cycling, running, walking, ..., and I am not limited to getting Nike+ trainers - which might not be the ones that fit my feet the best or provide the best support for me)

To solve your problem you can percevere with getting a refund, or you can look to get a pouch for the foot pod (do yo uget that with the sports band or do you have to pay an extra £20 for it?). Look on the internet for Nike+ pouches. You can even make one. These pouches use the laces to hold it into the shoe and the footpod can go into the pouch with a velcro fastening to hold it in place. Not ideal and it does loose a little accuracy with that (it bounces around more).

Oh a GPS watch is cheaper than the Nike+ system wjen I added it all up - £20 for footpod, £85 for Ipod Nano or £40 for sports band, £45 for Nike+ trainers..... £100 for Timex GPS

  2. Panic not.

You can buy a little pouch that you put on your trainers (threads through the laces) and it holds the sensor, so you don't have to buy new trainers......

Costs about £6, which is still extra expense, but not £120 for a pair of special trainers.

    Good luck with the 10K.

  3. Since one day you will need another pair of running shoes.

Why not now? Buy the Nike's with the chip and enjoy yourself.

Don't look back with regret. go on and win that next race.

  4. I dunno!
