Has anyone else been jerked around by caroffer.com, or am I the only one?

I went to caroffer.com's website and received a quote 2 days later. After I got my number I went in to get my check. The number changed OF COURSE once I got there. Then after that I had to BARGAIN my way BACK to the ORIGINAL PRICE. After they saw the vehicle they told me to go to ANOTHER PLACE to DROP off my car. WTF IS THAT? Like I have all day to drive from one place to another? After I got jerked around I went to carcash.com in NYC and sold it there in less than 20 minutes. After selling my car I then did some research on caroffer.com. Turns out to be owned by some guy in Dallas that ALSO owns the company that gives the "quotes". www.dealerbasics.com. Did some research on dealer basics turns out that they are using KBB, NADA, BLACK BOOK, and GALVES and averaging them together to give us all a price. This dealer basics never got permission from ANY of these books to use them in such a way that VIOLATES each and every individual company's trademark and business. FYI!

  1. That's why you don't buy cars or trade them via online negotiations.  Go to a reputable dealer.

  2. This informational rant isn't anything new. It just shows why most sensible people do not deal with such places. They cater to the desperate for quick cash. There is no violation of any information from the guides as you believe. They do the same thing all dealers do. Buy low and sell high.

  3. I think you're incorrect.  I sold my car on CarOffer and had no problems whatsoever.  Yes, it took me a couple of hours but it sure beat the dealer hassles.  From what I understand if you describe your car correctly there are no problems (I had no problems)! However, if Pep Boys finds a discrepancy CarOffer must re-bid the car.  Basically, if you're honest when you launch the car they honor the bid. I don't know whether they use the wholesale books to give a bid to give a bid but I'd assume they should and would.  They have to make a profit.

I got my money immediately and it was a great experience.
