Mine are now smashed and in the bin awaiting the binmen tomorrow morning.

These so called energy saving lightbulbs give me terrible migraines. i have no intention of saving the planet whilst driving my self insane because of the lightbulbs.Just leave people to choose whether they want normal lighgtbulbs or migraine causing lightbulbs.

  1. British Gas...are doing the same.

They send the standard energy light bulb which does not fit  GU10 or s***w fit...thingy...

So, I have UNWANTED light bulbs piling up...

  2. Yes what about the mercury they contain and you have just smashed them in the bin,Do not be surprised if the binmen refuse to empty your bin or the council fine you for improper disposal. You could at least have given them to someone else to use.

    Think before you dump.

  3. I live in in the US.

    Help!

My utility never sends me anything but a bill.

  4. Did you actually want anyone else's opinion or did you just want to rant, which I believe is against community guidelines.

  5. Interesting that they give you migraines. I get migraines often but these bulbs are not a trigger factor for me. And yes, I got two from Southern Electric, who I think are a part of the same company as Scottish Power.

  6. Poor paranoid little boy.

Low energy bulbs do contain a small amount of mercury which is not at all dangerous when contained within the bulb. The bulbs should be disposed of responsibly and can either be collected in your normal household waste bin or can be recycled at your local council’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre or at collection points provided by some light bulb retailers.

Should you break a bulb in the house, it is advised that the broken material is swept up using a damp cloth and both the debris and cloth put into a double layered plastic bag and taken to a collection point for disposal. The room should then be well ventilated for at least 15 minutes.

  7. Yes we got them too.

But instead of destroying them because they don't agree with you, wouldn't it have made more sense to have given them to someone else to use?

Those light bulbs should not be disposed of in normal refuse.  They are considered "Hazardous waste" and contaminate landfill sites.

    See links below.

I have a drawer in the kitchen full of them and avoid buying the ordinary types now.  Ordinary light bulbs are due to be phased out within a few years anyway, so it looks like you better stock up with migraine medications.

  8. You smashed them a risky thing to do not over complaints from the dustbin men but you could have exposed yourself to some nasty stuff in them. I think someone said they contain mercury.

Have a read of this item from the BBC website. Don't panic do. I did not want to scare you are anyone else.

  9. I havent but my boss has. I want something for free!!

  10. Yes. I have got four from British Gas.

Make no mistake though, nothing is 'free'.

The bulbs are part of the overall outgoings of the companies and will therefore, make an increase (however small) in the price of their product.

We have 'freebies' offered to us from all sides these days - and if you think about it, you'll realise that nobody or company, can afford to 'give' anything away.

The 'give aways' will always reflect in their prices, whatever they are selling !

  11. Imagine the cost of fuel to deliver all those bulbs?....imagine the damage done to the environment too......lol

  12. Before smashing them, you should have tried them. We have had low energy bulbs for years, they are o.k. The only downside is that they are dull for the first few miniutes while they "warm up "

  13. We got two this morning from Southern Electricity.  We'll probably find a home for them where we don't need too much light!  Oh to be in England!

  14. By EON, unsolicited  and unwanted, i put them in a drawer and will only use them if i have run out of the normal ones. They are so low that i can't even read by them.

  15. next time you get some, let me have them, i would love to get sent them as freebies, be grateful...they aren't forcing you to use them, just promoting the idea your way

  16. mine havent given me any headaches never mind migraines, why would they do that then ?, this has encouraged me to change the rest, dont come moaning to us when you can't afford your electric bill !

  17. Not me.
