Has anyone else ever heard of the phrase 'Good Grief Rickenbacker!'?

My Dad used to exclaim this as in 'oh my goodness' etc

I know Rickenbacker is a guitar and I thought my Dad had just made it up (he's a bit like that... ha ha) but I did a google search and a few people had mentioned it but no one explained why.. just thought of it as I was working and exclaimed myself 'God grief Rickenback!' and all my colleagues asked the h**l I had said.. ha ha I thought it was a well known phrase, which led me to investigate further.

Thank you

  1. I've never heard it before.

Back when your father was young (maybe before then), the Peanuts comic strip made the phrase "Good grief" famous, it was something that Charlie Brown said a lot.  Also, there was his Beagle Snoopy that often pretended to be a WWI flying ace with his doghouse as his Sopwith Camel.  "Rickenbacker" more than likely referred to the top American flyer of that war, Eddie Rickenbacker (whose biography contains a lot more than just shooting down Germans, well worth reading.)

Other than that, it's not a phrase I'd be familiar with.
