Has anyone else found cockroaches on there at Yakiniku ?

More specifically at the Yakiniku in Feng Jia, Taichung . And when I asked to see the kitchen they refused. When I asked what the manager would do if he was the customer , (would he tell his friends to go there, would he come back ) he said I would probably not like his answer.

Yes. In every residence and business in Taiwan there are cockroaches. Good luck on NOT finding them if you look. Be happy that 99.999% of the time you eat your food, there isnt one inside what you are putting in your mouth. If you ever dropped food on the ground in a busy location, it wont be getting cleaned up until the crush is over, thus in some places it may be up for grabs for up to two hours or more, which is plenty of time for opportunistic cockroaches to zip in the front facade, grab a few bites and zip back to sleep until night time.

Taiwan is a sub-tropical country with rainforests and fields in close proximity to each other and within the city are many farms and one neighbor who forgets to bring his trash out will attract bugs to all nearby locations. DDT and pesticides are either banned or limited here in usage. If you want absolute antiseptic perfection you are in the wrong place, probably on the wrong planet.

Generally food is stored carefully in plastic containers and refridgerated. After the food is opened to the air, just like Europe and USA, flies and cockroaches can smell it and land on it. So the trick is to eat your food quickly after preparing it and not waste it by having silly ninny fits, because the longer you leave it out, the more chances of bacteria, bugs, dirty children's hands and your own unwashed hands touching it to make you sick.

If there is a cockroach on the floor, look at the door. Look at the proximity of the gutter outside to the door. Go outside. Look for cockroaches. You will find them. Go outside, look for rats. You will also find them. There is not any escape from them. Live and let live.

Even with the most rigourous of washing procedures one cannot eliminate the basic form of sustenence for the lower vertebrates. No cockroaches =no mouse food. No mouse food= no bird food. no bird food= no food for us. That would lead to ecological disaster. So deal with it or go back to your sterile spaceship.

Cockroaches can be found anywhere in a tropical and sub-tropical climate, and they are not associated with filth the way they are in North America or Europe.  You can take for granted there WILL be cockroaches, in any restaurant kitchen in Taiwan.  My friend's sister owns a really nice restaurant, and she gets the exterminator in once a month to keep the little perishers at bay.
