Has anyone else gone through this situation

I was born in philippines and I was legally adopted in Florida, on the travel.state.gov website and on the actual passport application it says all I need in this case to obtain a passport would be my Final adoption judgment, and my resident alien card. I don't have my original birth certificate either but like I said on the gov website, passport application and the actual passport services number I called said it should be no problem. But I would like to know from anyone who has gone through this exact same situation if they were able to get their passport.

  1. Hey, I sent you an email too, but then I found your question.  :)

The Florida issued documents are the ones you want, rather than paperwork from the Phillipines.  Your final adoption judgement, your green card, and maybe a birth certificate issued by Florida's dept of vital records will do.

It really all went very smoothly, took no time at all.

One other thing - make sure once you get your passport to keep it up to date. If you renew it before it expires, from what I'm told, it's much easier.

OK, two other things - go down to the social security office with your passport and be sure they change your status to "Citizen" in their computer.  When your parents got your ss#  without proof of citizenship, they put you in as resident alien.  You can't tell by looking at your card, but they told me at soc. sec. that it will affect you later so get that done and all your adoptiong related paperwork will be done.
