It started yesterday quite suddenly. My daughter could pass water without shrieking in pain. we collected a urine sample, now my 2 year old is on antibiotics.

Is this common?

  1. My daughter has just got over hers - she's almost 3. It's quite common, but watch out for it recurring as they look for kidney problems then.

My girl was so upset every time she needed to wee, it chucked her potty training out of the window for a few weeks! Don't worry about it, these things happen.

Incidentally, pro-biotic yoghurts and drinks really help, if you can get her to eat/drink any?

  2. Yes, my daughter had a UTI when she was about 5 and was on antibiotics.  Lots of water and cranberry juice is also very good.  Such a shame to see them like that isn't it.  They do tend to recover quite quickly though.  Best of Luck!

  3. My daughter used to get UTI's very often, she was never in pain on passing urine but was always feverish and incredibly sick( mostly water).

When she was two she was diagnosed with a horseshoe kidney and only 1.

I was told that it's fairly rare for a small child to get tract infections but they can be caused by a number of reasons most of which can be tested for simply with a urine test.

  4. Did your doctor check for thrush? It maybe that causing so much pain, my little girl started screaming in pain went she went to the toilet and doctors thought it was a UTI but turned out to be thrush. If your doc didnt check i would have look for any redness or soreness, im sure you know where I mean. However, UTI's are very common in children of this age and i wouldnt worry too much about it.

    Hope this helps.
