Has anyone else noticed that many cans now are hard to smash because of the rounded bottoms?

I like to recycle, & I do a lot of it. I like to smash my cans to take less room in my recycling bins, but it seems like over half of them have the rounded bottoms. Whose great idea was this?

  1. Well where are you located? States that have a bottle recycling bill have machines that smash the cans when inserted.  As for other states they are behind the times and the rounded bottom is for strength and stack ability.  They manufacturer can use less material and achieve a stronger can both with aluminum and steel

  2. Probably the manufacturers of the cans who noticed that the bottoms, with no re-enforcement were stronger if they were rounded.

They are more concerned with presenting their product than keeping dumpster-divers happy.

  3. I agree with what both of the people above said but to add to that it makes them easier to smash them yourself into a smaller shape.

  4. They aren't getting stronger, you are getting weaker
