  1. In general men are less averse to getting their hands dirty, so are more prepared to do dirty jobs.

  2. That's like asking how can there still be racism today. Sexism and racism and all of that is still around because of ignorant simpletons, i don't know how a person can say 'oh she cant possible do that she is a women.' 'or he/she is a different colour he/she must be a savage we have to change them and their religion!!"

Anyway i know a lot of girls in those kinds of trades but it also depends on the employer... and **** whoever said ignorance is bliss!

  3. Dunno ask the fools that blame a few billion people who don't care who fixes the toilet or the wall sockets, as long as it gets done.

  4. Stop complaining and be glad you have a roof over your head, that or move out into the streets with all the riff raff.

  5. Probably because their t!ts get in the way, they dont want to smudge their makeup or chip their nails and their thongs ride up their cracks.

  6. Maybe they just don't want to....but they are out there... down to personal taste isn't it??

  7. That is a steaming load! Maybe where you live but out here we all pull in together. We have to make money it can be scarce out bush, getting the job done is the most important thing; not who is doing it. Can I guess where you live? I think I already know…. But tell me.

Edit: Ciao, come stai? I love how you pull random “statistics” out of your **** and use them as facts. Clever BOAUY! Women just as men have the same abilities in math and logical thinking. I know you would love to sit on your high horse all day long and shout “I am better because I is male” but it just don’t work that way sugar dumplings. Women are just as capable, so lower that ego and allow the evolutionary process to continue.

  8. I know quite a few women electricians.

Most of the women I know who are qualified plumbers (again quite a large number) are specialists in niche areas (central heating, appliance installation and the like). They seem to be both cleverer and more motivated than the average male.

  9. I have worked in industrial maintenance most of my life...and there are many women electricians, welders and fabricators in the work force.  True, they are a minority, yet their numbers are increasing, and those that are in the work force are generally quite skilled.

  10. you do se women in trade work i'm working my way through nursing school as a communications/low-voltage systems lead technician my project manager is a women. my bestie is an electrician who has her journeyman's card i know a girl who is pipe fitter lead a girl who runs a drywall crew and another who programs cctv systems we recently all worked on a prison job together half the men on that site answered to a women it was awesome. the job came in on time and at budget.

in my area you do see a lot of women in the trades especially the technical trades.

  11. Ya I've noticed that, i don't understand why there isn't and I also don't understand why there is still sexism in the 21st century, and it's has to be stopped. The guys in my class are just like that. They'll be playing soccer, and won't let any of the girls play, even the awesome ones who are probably 100X better then any of the guys. Even when we convince them to let the girls play, the guys will whine when one of the girls are put on their team!! It's ridiculous! Girls can do anything a guy can do!! (and some things probably better!)

  12. I had a female electrician working on my first house, well cottage, in the docklands. she knew what she was doing but she was slow and expensive.

I gave her the job because well she was available and I wanted to spend time with her, I loved to watch her emerging from the attic sweating and all covered in dust in her knee-pads, she was a bit of a party girl too so, we started going out, it worked out well.

Her mother is a fem-bot she groomed her children, the son became a nurse and the daughter became an electrician. Last I heard my electrical girl was in more suitable  employment.

  13. I think it is that girls still don't think of those sort of trades as a viable career for them - it's still not the sort of thing that gets suggested to girls  - , which is a shame because there is probably more opportunity to earn well and have job satisfaction than being an office drone

  14. It has nothing to do with sexism. Women don't want these jobs, they require a lot of physical labor and physical strength...mainly upper body strength which women don't have a lot of.   As for your reference to quotas, they are a thing of the past.  It is widely known that Affirmative Action is sexist within its self in most cases.

Why aren't their more male elementary teachers?  There are none in my school and even with my vast community of teachers (many teacher friends and family members), less that 5% of elementary teachers are male, and that is including Music, PE, Art,Special Ed,  etc. not just classroom teachers.

  15. My SIL is a plumber.

But in answer to your question, it's a lot to do with the manual nature of the jobs - women are far more prone to prolapses due to prolonged exposure to heavy lifting and bending.  SIL knows she'll have to look for something less strenuous in the future.

ETA: Excuse me? Steaming pile? Before I'm accused of sexism, which I'm sure is next, I'm female.  Many of the jobs in the industries you describe are lone work/ 2 man teams, so there is no option to 'pull together'.  Much of it is to do with choice.  How can the sexism card be played when many trades are self employed, and therefore source their own work. I, personally, don't want to be working on a muddy building site in the rain, or crawling through attics and floorboards whilst laying cables.  I've worked in Telecoms for years, and have NEVER had the urge to train up for the tools.

  16. Gah! You wouldn't want to be a woman working there O_O holy bajeebus!! I live in a city/town/w/e anyways and you'll find SO many brickies all that - most of them are PIGS with a capital P. I should know I'm friends with some of them and my sister is dating one O_o. You'll say you're not friends with all of them, true but if I go out with those there'll always be more. But it's because women choose, really, not to have these jobs, and why fight for something you don't want O_o

  17. Then you don't watch HGTV, DIY, etc......

  18. Women don't tend to go in for that sort of job

It's not sexism but more peer pressure because doing those things isn't girly

  19. i wouldn't blame the male gender for a sexist attitude on this one...

more likely than not, women just aren't interested in such careers.  if a woman is interested and qualified for the position, more power to her.

  20. Because they are boring jobs?
