Has anyone ever applied for Public Assistance?

Hi,

am just wondering if anyone has ever applied for PA and how long it took to get a response after the application. Iam asking this for a friend who applied for such and told her to wait for a letter in ten days since the 24th of the past month, but shes worried cause she was getting food stamps for her sons and now when ever she calls the operator to ask when shes gonna get it for this month they tell her that a date has not been set and shes worried cause she says she usually gets them on the 5th of every month.

well if she sent in another application she just has to wait, or go in person. i'm sure its no big deal. plenty of ppl apply for PA so im sure she just has to hold up.

not all ppl who receive PA are deadbeats!  just b/c she is getting assitance doesn't mean she went and had a bunch of kids out of wedlock.  sometimes men leave.....don't pay child support....the list goes on.  the ones who take advantage of the system give those who really need it a bad name! i'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she really needs it.  tell he to keep calling & maybe find a job working for cash at home so she doesn't have to pay someone to watch her kids.

It hasn't even been ten business days since the 24th of last month. She just needs to be a little more patient.

To some of the ******* on here. I would much rather see someone that is working getting some assistance than someone who won't work getting assistance. And to the d***o who said he would rather starve than take a handout. It isn't really a handout if you pay your taxes. If you lost your job and were starving you have the right to ask for assistance since that is where some of your tax dollars are going.

Welfare can be a good thing if it isn't abused, the whole system needs an overhaul, we need to make it easier for people to get off of it, not cut them off the second they get a job, then it just becomes a cycle you can't get out of. I am lucky that I have never had to get public assistance but if something happened I know I would not feel guilty because I have paid my d**n taxes for years, and if I needed it for a short time I would take it.

well they NEVER respond... so she needs to push...!!! trust me...

wake up early go in there when it opens and wait ur turn once again.. they may ask u if u are filling out a app... just LIE and say yes.. fill it out or what ever and then when they send her to HEr case worker.. tell her whats what and that u need tyhe assistance asap... they will hook her up with emergency assistance... she should get the foodstamps or card... that day!! if not then like 2-3 day later in the mail, i have been there good luck hon.. u gotta push or they wont hurry ... ( also if u dont fill in the app and stuff they will be mad because u wanna just see them with out an appointment.. GOD FORBID)

I have not, but I would expect this type of service from the fed gov't if i had.  They'll tell you they've got you covered, and put lots of nice-looking programs in place... But when it is time to execute... game over, dream ruined, heart broken. Our money is better off in our own hands, not the fed gov't's. Would she need assistance if her taxes were 20% lower?

In CA. you will get a food allowance of $163 the day you walk in. After jumping threw hoops for a month you will get a cash allowance of $223 as well

hey I"m going through the exact same thing as your friend and I know dealing with these people is kinda frustrating. Mostly because they have so many cases to deal with. She should probably call them as much as possible since they usually don't call you back, and let them know what's  going on. If she does'nt bug them it wont get done. Thats kinda weird that they say a date has'nt been set because the date is usually the same for everyone ours is the third. Best advice bug them as much as possible.

There should be someone assigned to her to answer these questions...she should go back and apply for Emergency Assistance...ain't passing no judgment ma

She should just go back to the Department of Health and Human Services to make sure they have everything they need to go forward with her case. If she waits too long and they are missing something, she will be denied and then have to reapply which could take up to a month to see benefits.

my wife and I applied and we got a response before we even left the office. We knew what we were getting,how much,how often.

she should call her case worker and ask if there are any paper work she forgot to put in, and explain that she still havent receive her foods stamp and she really needs them asap. Hopefully she has a good case worker that will put in the paper work fast.

I don't know I live in Canada and we give everyone that has children money every month my sister gets $300 a month for her kid for child tax. I think she should move to Canada their is so many jobs out here I can go out for one day and find a good paying job and we always take care of everyone.

she needs to leave the operator alone, and call her case worker. the only reason for her not to get her monthly amount would be if she missed an appointment, or didn't follw directions on a job program, or parenting class, she shouldn't worry. call her case worker monday. she should get them in the 5th

Excuse me but some people have so happened to get themselves into difficult situations and cannot afford to get by on there own like other people. Do not put others down just because you are a bit less fortunate. And, I guarentee you that you would not literally stave yourself to death rather then apply for financial aid.. If someone is down on there luck. I think its great that this country helps them, and kids shouldn't have to go to bed hungry ever. I have never understood why someone has to go through all the courses and tests to get a simple drivers license yet any Idiot can lay down and make a baby.PEOPLE SHOULDN'T HAVE KIDS IF THEY CANNOT TAKE CARE OF THEM. My tax dollars shouldn't be raising other peoples kids simply because the parents were to irresponsible to use birth control. Sounds like (your friend) she has way to many kids and cant take care of them.maybe she should contact adoption services there may be a nice family who could support and take care of these children the right way. Definitely tell this friend of your to get fixed since birth control doesn't seem to be an option.

You mean for food stamps?  You get a letter right away to set up a meeting with your caseworker.  If you haven't received anything in 2 months, I would go and contact you caseworker because you get assigned one after you apply
