Do you regret having your kid(s) when you did?

I was at walmart doing some shopping this morning and this woman walks up and starts talking to me. This is the conversation that took place and its got to be at the top of the most ridiculous things anyone has said to me about my kids. Keep in mind I was polite the whole time until the very end.

Woman: How old are they?

Me: She'll be 2 in Nov and he is 6 1/2 months

Woman: Are they your sister and brother? (she says to my daughter "are you shopping with your big sissy today")

Me: No, they are both mine

Woman: Oh so you were 16 or 17 when you had her?

Me: No, I was actually 21 when she was born and 22 when he was born.

Woman: So you were 19 when you got pregnant?

Me: No, I was 20 ( I wanted to laugh at how ridiculous that ? was since it meant I would've been pregnant for well over a year and say "yep I was 19, I carried her for a full 15 months, little bugger was 6 months over due!")

Woman: Do you regret having them with as young as you are?

Me: Not at all

Woman: Well I had my kids at 24 and 27 and I regret not wating because I am now a grandmother to 2 kids and I'm only 48. The only person I feel bad for when I see all these young girls walking around with babies is their poor mothers who were made grandmothers at such young ages. I bet your mother isn't very happy about you making her a grandmother either!

Me ( I coudln't hold the sarcasm anymore) : No she wasn't happy she told me I was a disgrace to the family and I ought to be shot! (I started walking away)

Woman: I agree with her, I think woman's bodies should be made so they cant get pregnant till the age of 30!

I couldn't believe how ignorant this lady was! By the way, my Mother ADORES my children, spoils them beyond belief. She was very happy when I found out I was pregnant both times and she is only 42 with 2 grandkids and 1 on the way.

Has anyone asked you this and how did you respond?

wow. some nerve that ***** has!! im 20 and i have a 4 1/2 month old and i wouldnt trade that for the world!! my mom was also SO happy when we found out i was pregnant. personally i think its better to be young like us to have kids.

uhmm.. did you notice that when she said I had my kids at 24 and 27..

that means her one kid is only 24 with a baby and the other is 21.... right?? does that make sense? I dunno if I did the math right but.. sounds like it.

doesn't that sound weird that she is 48 with a 24 and 21 year old with kids yet she is doggin on you for being so young??

hmm.. maybe people should fix their own lives before judging others with similar situations. Not that there is anything wrong with having kids that young. I think the younger the better without being.. ya know like 16 or 17. Anyways.. interesting. kinda hypocritical.

Actually my mom would told me I was a disgrace to the family and shoot me. She was rude though. I love how you handle it. You're lucky with a great mother. I wish i was blessed like that. Your kids are propably wonderful!

I would be pissed! And so would my mother. I had my son when I was 23, just barley... and my mom had me when she was 20.

I would have freaked out on her... just because she feels she is too young to be a grandmother doesn't mean that is the general consensus... i would rather be a young mom and my mom would rather be a young nana if your too old you dint have any energy for the babies!

I can't believe some people.  I have never been asked this, but similar things.  But I was 16 when I had my daughters, they are now 4 1/2 and I am 20. Once at the mall my daughter said Mommy to me, and some lady near by said oh thats cute she has that little nickname for you, and I gave her a weird look, as mommy is not a nickname, it is who I am to my daughter, and I said its not a nickname. And the lady reply well sure it is when you must be her sister or nanny.  I said no I am her mother. And I walked away.

Some people need to learn to keep their mouths shut.

not exactly the same, but the other day i was out with my daughter and some woman came up to me and said "awwwww, so youre the babysitter or the big sister?" and i said "no, im the mother" she responded "wow.  really??  jeez, youre awfully young" i just turned around and walked away.  IM 25!!  CMON NOW.  people are so nosey!!!  i cant believe that conversation that you had, and then again...i can.  take it with a grain of salt, thats so ridiculous

I have never been asked this but I can tell you that there is no way I would've remained as calm as you.... but for the sake of the kids I think I would've slapped her!!

Sounds like the old bag is going through a mid life crisis and cant come to terms with the fact she is a grandma herself.  Nonetheless she was incredibly rude and I'd have told her to shove it.

Oh girl I have had many rude comment through my way. Just laugh it off. Let me just tell you about one. Okay well I am a lighter girl and my boyfriend is hispanic, okay the boyfriend part gets everyone cause we aren't married. Anyways, my daughter looks just like her dad, but she has my light skin, blue eye,and dirty blonde hair. And the comment I get is "Oh wow she looks nothing like her dad" OR " Is is his baby?".

I don't think people think about what the say.

Yea some people are ignorant but how can she say that you are a disgrace when she had her kids early you cannot control when your kids have kids. Girls are getting younger and younger having babies and grandparents are being made. But I am 21 will be 22 this year and have a 2 year old and pregnant with my second and my sister also has 2 kids but my mom is going to be 56 she had us at an older age. I feel sorry for the grandparents that are young and done raising kids and have to raise their grandkids. I would have told her 48 is not that young lol and my mom loves her grandkids as well she says they keep her young.
