Has anyone ever been on a cruise to Alaska? How was your experience? Did you spend a lot of money?

Hello, I am going on a 7 day cruise with my family for my parents 40 yr anniversary. This is exciting and I can't wait to get out there and explore and get on this ship and have some fun away from home with my family. I am also just wondering what my budget should be? I am married with three kids (16,10,1yr)......$$$?

i loved it ,i didnt send anything in port just looked around  and had a beer bought very little to take home but thats me well the ships gives you a list of optinals to do which cost a bloody fortune like a pvt plane ride to the glacier and things like that each port has an extra activity if you do them you will spend a great deal if not like us a few hours and back on the boat was just fine with us ,there are a few tours that are reasonable and should be done you will know them by the price

Ms; all of you will have a great time. Do not buy things on the ship. The best place is the Salmon Mall in Ketchnikan, price cheap for the same things. You can also buy at Alaska Shirt Co. and low prices. Been On 10 cruises there & never have spend more than $400.00. Most things on ship are free except soda & drinks. They have soda special you can get for kids. You will have a trip you will never forget.

Plan for this...

Gratuaties...Most cruise lines make you pay this.  Call you line to find out exaclty how much they charge per person.

Shopping...budget for gifts and stuff you want to by onland.

Entertainment....Some items onabord cost.  Casino, shopping and certain activites.

Food....Some restaurants charge, but there is alway a free one.  Soda, alcohol, specialty drinks (mocha, latte) will cost.

I would budget about $200 per person at least.  I went to Mexico 2 weeks ago and spent over $200 onboard and $50 + in each port.  About $450 total.
