  1. I have been on both trileptal and lamictal but not at the same time.  Is your doctor trying to prescribe both at the same time for you?  I am assuming that you are being medicated under the watchful eye of a psychiatrist.  A family doctor or genral practioner can prescribe antidepressant/antipsychotic meds but most refuse to do so because of possible malpractice suits.  At least that has been my experience.  A good psychiartrist will know the meds better and know what works and with what.

I asked questions of any doctor prescribing a new med to me.  I ask about side effects and possible reactions.  Do not be afraid to talk to your  doctor.

I am bipolar.  After being diagnosed with this mental disorder,  I was first put on Lexapro.  This was after I thoroughly reseacrch the side effects and reactions of other psychotropic medications and vehemently refused to take some.  It worked for my mental problems but it seriously balooned my weight.

I then was put on risperdal with not as effective results.  I changed psychiatrist.  I stongly feel that a doctor, psychiatrist, or any health care professional is a part of MY team and I expect cooperation.

I then was put on trileptal with very good results.  We had to balance it with my other meds for depression.  But it seemed to work for awhile.  Then I ran into troubles with coming out of depression and getting a lift.  I would feel better for a bit but then would dropped down below a level of balance.  I was taken off trileptal at a gradual reduction in dosages.  This has to be done so that I didn't have withdrawal and other complications.

I was then put on lamictal gradually.  The first pack of this med that I received was a starter pack that slowly builds up the amount of lamictal in my system.  This took 5 weeks.  One side effect of lamictal is skin rash.  I guess this should be monitored closely.  I didn't have that problem.

Within a short time of starting lamictal, I began feeling great.  If I was low and got a lift, I didn't fall back through the floor.  My mood became more stablized.  For me, lamictal is a miracle drug.  I have been on it for almost 2 years now.  I am enjoying a better life.

I hope this helps.  The most important point that needs to be emphasized is that you definitely need to do this under the supervision of your pyschiatrist.

God bless.  Go with the grace of God.
