I'm talking about the face of the woman from the exorcist movie, you think you're playing a game or something online, it tells you to turn up the volume, but you don't know why because you don't hear anything, so you turn up the volume a little bit more, suddenly the face appears on the screen and the sound is HORRIBLE and loud and peircing and frightening!!!!

I have seen it 3 times and every time it scares me SO bad that I ended up selling my laptop because I kept having nightmares. I now use a desktop, but I still get paranoid about watching certain things or playing games online.

My husband saw it and said it makes him jump...but when I see it, it REALLY scares the c**p out of me. I don't understand why though. I know it can't hurt me.

I was reading about hypnosis and wonder if it's because I was so into the "game" that I opened my subconscious to it, not that I know why that would even matter....if there is someone out there who understands, help me to understand. Please?

  1. It sounds like it's more than what you would expect from a "startle" scare.

It seems there is something you have associated with that face, that goes beyond the startle scare, and you linked it very closely to your laptop (hence why you ended up getting rid of your laptop.)  Since (as you've put it) you're paranoid about watching certain things and/or playing games online, you've associated that fear response with those things also.

It seems like that face is very closely associated with your fear/flight response.  Was this something you always had, or just after the "startle email."

It sounds like this fear is beginning to affect your day to day living which is one of the criteria for a phobia. This is something I would recommend discussing with a medical professional to seek some help for.

Email me if you have further questions (it's on the profile)

  2. Its just a natural reaction to be scared about something thats unexpected and surprisingly freaky. But you really shouldn't worry too much about it. It's just a silly prank. You know these things aren't real.

Anyway, don't go looking into 'possible' solutions why you're surprised everytime. There's no opening a subconscious to it etc etc.

Just don't think about it. Do something else. Put your attention elsewhere. If you're as paranoid as I am on a normal basis, you have to occupy yourself with other things. It's silly to imagine these fake images on a daily basis.

    Just. relax.

  3. I'm not sure, but when I was younger I went to MGM or Universal Studios, I can't remember which one. I saw this little remake of the shower scene in 'Psycho', the original one, and to this day I can't take a shower if I am home alone, and if I take a shower at night, I constantly open the curtain to see if someone is in the bathroom.
