  1. When you submit the documents that they require for verification they may ask you about these "kids" you claimed.  Likely, the most that will happen is they will be removed from your FAFSA and have your correction reprocessed.  You will still be eligible for financial aid.

You do have to be careful about providing false information intentionally though because you could end up being given a huge fine or jail time.  Just report the numbers honestly and take your chances in the system.

  2. The purpose of the verification process is to determine if the information you provided is true and correct.  If the financial aid office discovers that the information you provided is not correct, it can affect your financial aid.  HOW it could affect your aid is not easily determined.  That's for the financial aid office to work out.

I don't know if you "claimed" these kids on your FAFSA, or on your tax return.  If it was on your tax return, losing financial aid won't be your biggest problem because the IRS may audit you.  If you claimed them as yours on your FAFSA and it is discovered, that's considered fraud.  And as stated above, you could end up paying a huge fine, going to jail, or both.
