Question:

Has anyone ever been surprised in the delivery room with twins?

I've had three ultrasounds, and all have said that there is only one baby in there, but this one is so much more active than my last baby was, I'm starting to think that either there are two of them, or this one is ADHD in the womb. Part of my paranoia about twins comes from knowing that I took clomid to get pregnant, but no matter how many times the doctor assures me that I'm only having one baby boy, I just can't seem to release that fear.

  1. I'm pretty sure if the doctor has assured you through ultrasound 3 times that its only one boy than it's true. They would see another baby in there.:) Probably just really active. My 1st son was very active and constantly moving. This time around I barely feel anything yet.

  2. I can't imagine that that's really possible these days.

Three ultrasounds would have shown twins if they were there.

  3. Only if they opt out for an ultrasound ;)

  4. My husbands aunt was surprised in the delivery room but that was 35 years ago (still not long enough ago to have not known but things happen I guess lol).

Multiples with clomid is not common.  It is not a very strong fertility medication.  Twins do happen on it sometimes just not often.

Why would twins be a fear?  If there ends up being two then all the better!

    Congratulations on your pregnancy.

  5. your second pregnancy shows a lot easier, because you're already stretched.

Never mind that the baby is more active, different pregnancy, and different little soul. No two are the same.

It is very rare to be surprised with twins after you've had scans these days.

I know how you feel, i was paranoid about twins because i am one, and it runs in the family, and i've been told since i was younger 'you might have twins!' But my dating scan at 7 weeks showed only one baby in there. Not 'only.' A single beautiful wonderful joyous gift of a baby in there. I am inclined to believe the scan, the fact that i can see little nubs of arms and legs at 7 weeks pregnant, AND hear the heart beat, i seriously doubt they'd miss the second one!! I even had her check, just in case (which meant skewing the ultra sound wand around in my v****a!! eek).

and if there were two, not much you can do now :P Docs usually start off on the lowest does clomid and work their way up to what works, so there is less chance of mulitples. I wouldn't worry.

    Gratz!

  6. With that many u/s they'd have seen a 2nd baby by now and it's quite normal to grow larger with 2nd and more pregnancies then you did the 1st time around
