  1. I went to Rio and loved it. However, I had an interpreter. Not many people speak English so you need an interpreter. It is definitely not safe at night in Rio even in a group. Never, ever go on the Copacabana Beach at night. Gangs are very organized and methodical and are usually children about 7 -12. Don't be fooled because they will kill you or rob you in a heartbeat. However, Rio is exciting, has the largest Hard Rock Cafe in the world, and is inexpensive. April or May are good months to go.

  2. I'm from Curitiba. I grew up there and it's beautiful ! You should go !

  3. Go to Saul Paulo. It's so pretty.

  4. We travelled to Rio and Iguazu.  We found Rio to be a bit hectic and in the evenings, unsafe.  Our friend from Sao Paulo tolds us not to visit that city because there is not much for tourists to do.  More of a business city.

The most beautiful region in Brazil, imo, is Iguazu.  Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina, is an amazing network of rivers and waterfalls.  The natural beauty there is breathtaking.  Niagara Falls and Victoria Falls cannot compare to the beauty of Iguazu.  In addition to the waterfalls, there are alot of hiking trails, an amazing bird sanctuary, speed boat rides into the waterfall (literally), and many other activities.  I would highly recommend spending at least a week in Iguazu.  We were there for three days and it was not enough.

    Hope this is helpful!

PS.  Iguazu is also spelled Iguacu or Iguassu.

  5. I have lived in Brazil eight years, as a child. I spent my childhood between the US, Amapa(northern Brazil, very hot and tropical), and Rio de Janeiro, temperate and quite lovely.  You would like it there!

  6. Brazil is awesome. Well I am from Brazil.. it depends of what would you like to see. Brazil has different places...it is a mix of cultures..everybody heard about Rio de Janeiro...but I Love the north east of Brazil.. like Fortaleza-CE, has warm ocean. Maceio, Salvador, Natal, Pernanbuco. Also there isn't much violence in that region as we have in big cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

  7. Sau Paulo, Rio, Santos, lots of towns and villages, it is exciting, liberating (if you have money), hot, noisy, scary, vibrant, upsetting, fascinating w. lots of extremes.

  8. Rio (RJ)-The city is amazing, with mountains springing up in the middle of the city.  It is an amazing place to see.  Everytime I fly there I get so excited when I am looking out the window at the beauty of the city.  It has great hiking/rock-climbing and cool tourist places when visiting.  Very vibrant, but you must be smart when visiting.  Anyway, I love it!

Manuas (AM)- This is in the Amazon and is quite different.  I saw lots of monkeys, macaws, even alligators on one of our boat trips.  Cool birds and crazy plants.  Oh, the meeting of the Amazon river & Rio Negra is a natural wonder in my mind...check it out.  I believe you need to go on organized tours here...there are lots.

Buzios (RJ)- More of a vacation spot.  Relaxing, beautiful, beachy.  We had a great time here.

Itatiaia Park (MG)- Great for hiking and relaxing.  Mountanous.

Petroplis (RJ)- Day trip from Rio.  The old capital.   It is kind of European with the architectural style, mixed with regular Brazil.  A cool place to visit.

Later this year we will visit Rio again then Florianopolis.  I can't wait!

  9. Been to Rio, beautiful! and Iguazú Falls, breathtaking!

  10. It's very nice but you should go with somebody that knows the place so you won't get ripped off. Also don't go there and compare it to the U.S because it's different it's a 3rd world country don't forget that, things are simpler where the things you own don't matter as much... d**n is hard to explain
