  2. Caen is the main town of Calvados Department, and one the 2 mains towns in Normandy (with Rouen). About 230 km from Paris.

It's smaller than Paris of course, but you can find all what you need.

I have been there many times and I enjoyed it. It's close to the sea (the Channel), about 10 km. It's an historical city with many things to visit, and especially  some abbeys, a big castle and the fantastic museum for peace.

In summer, you can go to the beach in Normandy not very far for example Deauville.

Some others towns are worth seing at less than 1 hour by car, Honfleur especially, an old little harbour with painters.

And of course, in Normandy, you can eat very well, especially cheese and cider.

You can also pratice many sports easily if you want in Caen and around : tennis, golf, horses, sailing...

About 2h15 from Paris with train
