Has anyone ever been to Rio de Janeiro for New Year's or the Carnaval? What was your experience and ne advice

I have been there for Carnival, actually to RIO... unique experience, a MUST DO!!! there are no words to explain it... suggestions: be ready to have the time of your life, and avoid the big SAMBODROMO show, not worth it (and you could watch it on TV later on) go for the real thing, which is on the streets, everywhere! Also, make some brasilian friends before u go, so that you can live the experience as something more than a tourist...

Lastly, CARNIVAL is the BEST TIME HANDS DOWN to go to Brasil, do not go after or before if you can avoid it...
