  1. Yes it is very hot in the summer, about 28-33 C and their winter is quite mild. St Tropez used to be this cute little village near Nice, Cannes (French Riviera) but it has now become a very very touristic place, it is packed in the summer. But defenitely still worth a visit especially if you like the beach and partying! And the area is also beautiful.

  2. I have been there once. It is originally a cute fishermen's village but it has become a fashionable resort. Millionaires and billionaires from all over the world have yachts in the local marina. It's fun in summer for people watching (I was there in summer) but I believe outside touristic season it is a quaint, quiet little village.

Even in the high season I was able to feel and see its charm despite the many posers and flashy superficial people (for me it's actually part of the fun to watch them!). Both the coast and inland landscapes are beautiful. You should check their tourist office website for more information (click on the GB/US flag at the bottom for the English version). http://www.ot-saint-tropez.com/

As for the climate it's Mediterranean, meaning hot and dry in summer but not year round. The average high is 80 in the summer months, high 60's in the spring and fall and 55 in winter. In summer because of the dryness and sea breeze it never feels too hot, it's a very pleasant heat.

As another respondent pointed out, France is at a far more northern latitude than the US (excepting Alaska) but it is even further north than he thinks: the southernmost village in France (excluding Corsica) is actually further north than Chicago. France's latitude being between 42N and 51N, it is at the same level as southern Canada and Maine. However climate is not influenced by latitude as much as by warm sea currents keeping France and western Europe much warmer in winter than Southern Canada or northern US states.

EDIT: I agree with Mac that it is overrated though. I was there a weekend only and it was enough. There are far cuter and unspoiled villages along the Riviera to spend a longer vacation, but St-Tropez is worth seeing at least once.

  3. St. Tropez is nice and all, I think its rather over rated.  while you are out there, I would suggest you visit st. Maxim.  Its just as beautiful as St. Tropez, BUT not as touristy!!!  The weather is usually warm around 80-90 degrees. I was there in Nov and the weather wasn't too bad actually.  It wasn't HOT HOT but it wasn't too cold. I was wearing a light long sleeved shirt and was very comfortable in it.  But if you are already in St. Tropez, take a trip to St. Maxim... its about a 15min drive. Not too bad, you won't regret visiting, and might enjoy it more than St. Tropez.

  4. It's wonderful there.  Just the name makes it sound exotic.  Long beach.  Lots of beautiful people.  Not always very hot.  France is about even with Chicago in latitude.  St Tropez gets a  nice "lake effect" from the warm Mediterranean Sea.
