Has anyone ever been to Suriname?

I am going on a Missions trip there, I only speak a little Dutch... what's it like there?

  1. The main language is Sranan Tongo, but Dutch is the official language. Sranan is an English creole so you will be able to pick up on a lot of what they say. Surinam is pretty much a backwaters country and they have the smallest population in South America. The country is heavily dependent on Dutch foreign aid and half of the population fled to the Netherlands after independnce was acheived in 19775.
