Has anyone ever been to Washington DC for inauguration day? If so....give me tips!?

I am thinking of getting the train in as I have never been so I would love any tips or hints for where to stand etc

  1. It's not much like you think, but cold. It seems it is always cold, so bring handwarmers.  Never fails to rain too, to make it a damp cold.  It's not hard to find a place, just follow people that day. All natives leave. The parade always end up at the White House. The fun place to stand is near where they let the protestors gather, an boy you see all kinds that day-I never heard of such causes. And many of them are hired, yes hired protesters for the day. I asked them one time because I thought someone was kidding me. They have areas fenced off with seating for them. Take the train in, parking is horrible and pre prepare for security, it is like going to the airport just to stand on the street near the parade. So travel light. Start off by going to the green between the Smithsonian. They'll have people there with the schedule of the day.
