  1. Crack addict capital of Britain... but I spose its not all bad except for that large section of the population there. There are other things too like the Bristol channel and the suspension bridge. It's not too bad a city apparently. My sister just spent three years at the university there and she got on all right except for the 6 burglaries (not a joke).

  2. Hmm - I lived there for 4 years and loved it (no problems with junkies or burglaries)

As with all cities it depends on where you go. Lots of nice parts to it, and great shops, pubs, clubs etc.

  3. Haha, your first trip to England and your going to Bristol? I'd cancel that flight, and fast.

It's a very industrial city, full of drugs and the unemployed.

  4. I think that Bristol is still the 5th largest City in England and going back 50 years it was a fantastic place.  It had one of the lowest crime rates and lowest rates for drunkenness in the Country.  One small real red-light area towards the bottom of Park Street which connects the City Centre with the University.

Unfortunately a lot of people visited, said what a wonderful place it was and moved in bringing their strip joints, drugs and alcohol binging with them.

There are still lovely areas and others to avoid; St. Pauls once home to the middle class tradesmen, became a no-go area.  Knowle, south of Bedminster isn't so hot.

I left there exactly 43 years ago, and go back whenever I can; it was my home and still is, and where I went to school and grew up.  I love Bristol, warts and all!

  5. Don't go to Bristol. You have been warned. It's Junkie Heaven.

  6. If you want FACT, not fiction or an old mans tale of how it used to be, here it is....

Bristol is the wealthiest city per capita outside of London.

It has a population of nearly 500,000

It has an amazing mix of new and old buildings, a brand new shopping destination is opening in September called Cabots Circus, we will be having our own Harvey Nichols store.

There are loads of bars and clubs to choose from and every type of restaurant imaginable.

There aren't any no go area's in Bristol, I park my new Mercedes in St Pauls everyday and i've never had so much as a scratch on it. St Pauls sufffered a poor reputation about 20 years ago when it had some riots. It is the main area for the city's afro carribean population. (some people are frightened of other races!)

It's a lovely city and you will find a cosmopolitan population - english, indian, chinese, afro-carrib - australian, one of the reasons why is that is was a major port back in the times of the industrial revolution.
