  1. Mexico city my dear is around 800 miles from Cozumel and you can expect to $700.00 usd.Maybe more with the price of gas.

It is far cheaper and faster by air.  I have seen them for 100 usd

The bus is around $40 usd

Taxi drivers that speak English are rare and you would be bored stiff.

I think you driver will be more than willing to take you on the ferry and on to Mexico city

  2. By land it would take you almost 24 hours to reach Mexico City from Cozumel (40 minutes Ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and about 23 hours non-stop trip from there to Mexico City.)  I have done the trip three times by land and it has taken me two days to travel from Mexico City to the area of Cozumel.

Cozumel is a Tax-Free port and your best bet to find cheap stuff is in there.  You can find authentic perfumes very cheap there.  You can also find some good deals in other designer stuff, like purses, watches, etc. but you have to watch out for false copies.  Clothes are generally 20% more expensive in mexico than in the USA.  I know tons of Mexican people that fly regularily to outlet mall in the USA to do their shopping.  The savings they get pay for their airfare.

Souvenir T-Shirts are only found in touristic places.  You will find tons of places in Cozumel or Playa del Carmen (a short ferry trip from Cozumel to the main land.) that will have them.  Their prices depends on the quality of the material.  The best quality are typically Fruit of the Loom or equivalent, imported from ther USA to Mexico and printed with the art locally or in huge shops in Merida.  By the way Merida might have good clothe options and by land is "only"  about 4 hours from Cozumel (one way.)

You can find the cheap crafts in Cozumel or in any other areas around there, like Playa del Carmen, or Tulum, but as it is the case in most parts of the world, most of those supposedely "mexican crafts" are made in China these days and does not make much difference where you buy them.

  3. You can't catch a cab from Cozumel to Mexico City.  Cozumel is a tiny island just off the coast of Playa del Carmen.  You'd have to take the ferry across, then catch a cab at Cancun, but I highly doubt you'd find one to take you since Mexico City is at least 2 hours from there BY AIR.  Mexico doesn't have a vast interstate system like we do in the US... it would probably take 2-3 days by car to get there.

  4. I've been on two cruises there, my last one was in Feb.  it is true if you go to Mexico city it is cheaper, you just have to know how to bargan.  I got soo many great deals!!!

Not that this has to do with anything in sales, but you should visit the Myan Ruins!!!  it is so cool! me and 30 of my relitives went on the cruise....when we went to cozumel we got to ride in "SUV" looking lemo! i thought that was cool. Ou r tour guide had a son who was a boxer who is going to box in the olympics! You can learn so much about their culture, just talk to them!  You also need to go snorkiling!!! I loved that too. The fish will almost attack you as soon as you get in, so be careful.  And if they people on snorkle duty give you fish food, You wont need it! It just makes the fish attack you even more....Take Lots of pictures, andi hope you have a blast!!!
