I know that was a lot of detail in one question, but it has happened to me a LOT. No I wasn't in an accident or anything. It only happens before I sleep, but not asleep, just laying there. Could it be a paranormal phenomenon? I've heard that it's part of an OBE (out-of-body experience) but I'm not sure. Also when this happens I can't breathe, I can just look around with my eyes. And that's just the beginning of this experience, I don't think anyone would believe me if I told you the rest that happened a few times. >_<

  1. Happens all the time to me ~ it's called hypnogogia, and it always occurs in that twilight period just before falling asleep or waking up. For whatever reason, the part of the brain that controls muscle movement falls asleep ahead of the other part, leaving you with a sensation of being awake but paralyzed. It's usually accompanied with a feeling of suffocation.

What makes this slightly different than sleep paralysis, is that the episode is usually accompanied with lucid dreams that seem very real ~ you'd swear that people are talking in the next room, or standing by your side...and sometimes you wonder if you've been in a wreck and lying in the emergency room unconscious or something.

When you finally break yourself out of the episode (and yes, I also try to wiggle a finger or a toe to "break" the paralysis), you discover that no one is around.

Sometimes I can open my eyes, other times I can't. I've finally learned to recognize it as a dream of sorts, and try to control my breathing to avoid making things worse.

One thing I have learned from experience, is that the hypngogia usually manifests itself during periods when I'm under a lot of stress. I've also discovered that it's best to try & wake myself up instead of coasting through the experience ~ because the dreams can get pretty weird.

  2. Research sleep paralysis and lucid dreams

  3. Yes, it's sleep paralysis. It's scary but it's really nothing to be afraid of. It won't hurt you and you won't stop breathing. It's really scary too when you feel like you're levitating a few inches above the bed. ☺

Some other things you might experience:

    You might hear voices.

You might see or feel someone near you, on the bed or sitting on your chest.

You might feel like a part of your body, usually your legs, are floating.

  4. Yes, my mom has, she was sleeping. Then all of a sudden, she just felt she couldn't wake up or move any of her body parts. She felt like she was dead. Yes, it was scary.....

  5. It has happened to me a lot too. One time I had a succubus attack me, and I looked it up.

What I came across is information on sleep paralysis.

A lot more people experience that than you would expect.

Its a hallucination brought on when you body is caught between being asleep and being awake.

It can be brought on by a number of things, but mostly stress and irregular sleep patterns.

It sounds like you are lucky, my experiences have mostly been very menacing and scary, before I found out what it was, then it became just annoying.

Some of the common experiences people have are based on someone or something standing over them, OBEs, and the sensation that the sheets are being pulled off. Also, most people have a feeling of terror.

  6. Its sleep paralysis - and can be a problem where its doesnt wear off when you wake up and can in extremem cases kick in during waking hours - so if it gets worse you should see a doctor

  7. i believe you.did you feel a burning hot sensation 2?

  8. I've been through something similar, but I was asleep and then all of a sudden it's as if only my soul was awake and my body was imobile, I can also move and open my eyes but I choose not to because I'm afraid I'm going to see weirdness all over and I'll become traumatized. It's scary, I've been told that it's just a normal REM stage. The stage where one is dreaming, yet they wake up for some reason but the body hasn't responded yet so it can't function as proficient as the mind and eyes

  9. What you are describing sounds like a form of seizure. It doesn't discount the paranormal aspect of your experiences, because the two can go hand in hand. But if it gets worse or changes, you may want to talk to a physician about it.

  10. safe-yes I have! and it scared me awfull...I kept trying to wake my partner by screaming, but nothing came out,I could'nt move and I was panicking.when I could finally bring myself out of it ,I just thought"what the heck was that?".I started researching immediately.and yes i landed in the section of "astral projection".My brother does it often but he says that it feels more like hes falling slowly back int his body....Now that i know what I'm doing its not so unsettling. I can even do it if I need to leave a stressfull situation.Learn more about it please before you go on another adventure. The human being has a lot of education surprises huh?learn and be safe.............blessed be!

  11. You betta say your prayers and the Lords Prayer and read your Bible and you will be all right

the devil hates the name of Jesus, so say the Lords Prayer and it will scare him away.

never never talk to the devil

  12. I have never had this happen to me...but I would not be afraid. Why not try to leave the bed when this happens. If not the next time them when you feel comfortable. I really don't think that you have anything to worry about. I have read the other answers about sleep paralysis and that could be it...but you really don't know. It could be an out of body experience. Good Luck to you. Again, I would not worry about it, I think that you will be safe.

  13. You're most likely more a sleep then you think. The brain release a chem. that paralizes the body during sleep ,to protect you from hurting yourself. Most of us are never awear of it but some like you the concious mind is still active ,eigther at the begining of sleep or the end of sleep!

  14. Your body is asleep and your mind is awake.

  15. Yes I used to have it happen to me all the time. At first I thought it was demonic attacks. However, after many years of study towards enlightenment I realized what it was. I've read (and believe) that when we are sleep or spirit travels. Now becuase this is "unbelievable" to our concscious mind we don't remember our travels. Occassionally, however, our conscious mind awakens before our spirit reconnects with the body and we get scard, thus causing paralysis. Scietifically this phenomena has been labeled sleep paralysis. Google: astral projection

Best thing when this happens is to stay calm and realize there is nothing to be afraid of

  16. When u r pralyized!!!

  17. Try to contact monks from Tibet. They do believe in astral travel and they refined the art of out-of-body travels to an extend that they don't have to go to sleep. Only by fully concentrating and controlling the mind, they can travel at demand. They also say that many people have the ability and they do travel, but they don't remember after they are back in their body. Get more informed about it all and let us know the outcome.

  18. You Know what? Your question make me think of this, I used to have reoccurring dreams, and I was always n my bed. Or A Bed,or table. There was a High Pitched whistling noise, and I mean really high, and loud. I would be always strapped onto some type of bed, or it could have been a table. I have never before thought that it could possibly have been something else until now.Anyway, the whole bed would turn slowly to the side, just like a BBQ Rotisserie, and I was so scared, I didn'y know what would happen to me if I ever hit the bottom . And the more it turned, the louder it got. But there was nothing I could do, I would be paralized. I bet that the Flying Sauser we saw abucted me! bye

  19. This could be a near death experience. Could also be a diabetic comma. If it is from trying to travel i n the spirit be careful make sure you stay grounded & someone knows what & when you are doing this to check on you. To be grounded is to visualize you are connected to center of earth such as a golden root to center of earth & visualizing a brown cord from center of earth to top of your head.& it goes with you when you travel. Be careful- when you travel your spirit man is out of the body & other entities can enter your body such as walkin s& its hard to come back to the real you.

  20. I think its sleep paralysis. Its also possible to experience some kind of visions, hallucinations in this state. I had these experiences when taking heart medication and it really frightened me until I started reading about sleep paralysis and nightmares related to medication.

  21. I believe you are going through Sleeping Paralysis. I'm not too sure, but I was just like you when I was at young age. Please research "Sleeping Paralysis" on google.com or something and see if it's what you're going through.

  22. but if you are lacking awareness and the capacity for sensory perception; how come you can describe the things you experience ?a little bit confusing

unconscious=The division of the mind in psychoanalytic theory containing elements of psychic makeup, such as memories or repressed desires, that are not subject to conscious perception or control but that often affect conscious thoughts and behavior

  23. It's called sleep paralysis. It actually happens when the chemical in your body which keeps you from acting out your dreams has already entered your body, but your mind is still alert. It can be pretty scary but it's a normal occurrence for many people. The only thing that concerns me about your case is the fact that you can't breath, which isn't normal for these cases. This is probably a stretch but there's such a thing as a "hagging" where some sort of paranormal entity is believed to paralyze a person and try and steal their life. More information would be necessary to determine if you're a sufferer of a "hagging," such as are you having any visions, dreams, or hearing anything relating to these instances. *****Help baby Osiris: visit paranormal-society dot com for fund-raiser information!*****

  24. It is the start of an OBE. You can take it were you want from there but be sure of what you are doing before you try to go farther. Do your research!

  25. I had to respond to this to support those who said it is sleep paralysis. Your description of it is classic and there is nothing paranormal about it.

Aleesonaroll, this is not supernatural or having anything to do with the spirit or astral projection. It has to do with the brain becoming conscious before it regains motor control. Pretty straightforward. No, don't Google astral projection. Astral projection is both non-existent *and* irrelevant. Look up sleep paralysis in wikipedia.

  26. you are describing what old folks used to call being ridden by a witch,im sure this experience has happened to millions of people the world over no one can really explain this phenomenon fully, but it is a common occurence among people of the world.although not everyone has this experience,it can occur in anyone at any given moment.there are literature addressing this issue all over the place, you just have to find it and read up on it,so you will get abetter understanding of what"s happening to you.

  27. id like to hear more of it if you want to email me..it happens to me quite often, and im awake..its been happening for years but lately i hear it happens to many people..I used to try and explain it to friends and family but they couldnt understand..They call it sleep paralysis, but personally i think theres more to it, and yes ive left my body quite a few times, and travelled to places..Then from about a year ago i started having these weird dreams that i couldnt understand. I knew i was asleep and in a dream, but you wake up in your dream and you are aware of everything around you, but you have to make yourself wake up, i found that it does happen to some people and they call it lucid dreams..
