  1. besides Lynne - there r numerous  and millions such stories.  those were the days when mother knows best!  the speed of our lives kinda make mummy redundant.  we are now dictated by external events and what goes on in the house is miniscule unless mum is highly educated and au fait with world events.

i think u may be indian as its customary for us to obey our mums. but mum must be realistic.  look at indian arranged marriages.  its losing its flavor. now we marry for love

  2. yes, my parents were very negative people. I got married at 17 & wanted to buy a house. My neighbor told me that my mother told her not to encourage us to buy a house cause we couldn't afford it. So I just kept my savings plan quiet. After i was married for a year & 1/2 I had $6,000 saved for a down payment & I bought a house. This was in 1978 which bought me a 4 bedroom cape cod with no basement...We kept saving money & it about 2 years more we had our house paid off. So I never listened to their negativity. I don't know how I kept things so secret...Now over 30 years later I think I will have to do the same thing cause my son always acts like I can't accomplish what I want so maybe your question is to remind me of how I did well before.
