Has anyone ever experienced how poorly Wal-Mart treats their employees and customers?

I recently watched a documentary on Wal-Mart. It made Wal-Mart look so bad I could barely believe it. The gist of it was that in other countries they make their manufacturers thing pay for rent even if they don't live there and give them a poor living condition, make their employees clock out but still work over time, are sexist and do not let women advance to management. They also take money from the city they build in somehow and say they have security measures outside the building but the statistics of theft and kidnapping are very high. Has anyone had such a bad experience like this? It is just hard for me to believe they are so evil.

  1. I hate Wal-Mart! I can't understand why so many people think it is so fabulous. I don't think it is THAT much cheaper than other stores.

  2. And the blind sheep of a population of the US is subsidizing

Wal-Mart's treatment of their employees and suppliers.

    :-(

  3. I shop there and 2 of my kids work there.

We love it. and so do my kids.

They are the biggest,  so they are a target of hate and rumors.

I bet they are no better or no worse than any large corporation

  4. I agree they are a bad place and can change many things. I don't agree with the whole clocking out and working OT thing or the women not advancing.

When I worked at walmart they were great. If I was not on the clock they refused to let me work. If for some reason when i was off the clock shopping and had to help some of the walmart regulars that recognized me then the store manager would actually pay me for the time i was helping the customers. He would manually change my hours to give me the time worked. They were really anal about the whole working and clocking in/out thing.

When it comes to women in the management team, i knew many assistant managers that were women. At one time they were the majority at my store. I also know of a few female store managers in my area. So i don't believe they are discriminating there.

I know back in the day walmart was a bad place, but after a few hefty lawsuits and a bad public image they are changing their ways.

They are still too cheap tho, and do not pay their associates enough $$!
