Hi, i started taking this antibiotic 1000 mg a day for cystitis.. i was really tired the first day (passed out at 5pm) and im on the 3rd day out of 10 and i am in front of the tv trying to relax and i am soooooooo paranoid, i had a little disagreement with my boss on friday at work but nothing major, i did not do anything i dont always do while i was there but im unable to relax. having paranoid thoughts, upset. like im going to get fired or something.. i know its irrational but when your feeling this its difficult to really overcome. I have a week off so of course i dont want to be feeling this way all week.. has anyone else felt this on this med, am i over-sensitive right now maybe? Any suggestion on how to lessen that effect.. dr office closed till tuesday.. just looking to see if others have been affected this way. thanks.

  1. Cipro can cause neurological side effects and does so in less than 1% of patients.

there is nothing for you to do other than stop taking it.

i would definitely call your physician when they open and talk to them about it.

in my opinion 1000mg is a very large dose seeing as the usual dosages range up to 550 mg. However seeing as it was prescribed by your doctor theres probably a reason. So talk to him/her about it.

  2. Fatigue and drowsiness are both possible adverse reactions to Cipro.  Paranoia was reported in clinical trials and evidently can occur.  It apparently didn't occur with any frequency and is considered rare.  Report this to your prescriber as soon as you can and place a call anyway in case there's an on-call phone number you can use or an advice nurse you can speak to.
