Has anyone ever gone from L.A. to Santa Barbara by train?

  1. As others have pointed out, it's Amtrak these days.

    I recall back in the EARLY 70's when Southern Pacific still provided passenger service, we went from San Jose to Santa Barbara to visit the grandparents... and then down into LA to go to Disneyland.

    I still hope and pray they get passenger service working more efficiently and effectively here in California


  2. I haven't done it, but I've heard it's pretty good.  It's called Pacific Surfliner.  I want to say it's like $30 now.

  3. yes - AMTRAK is the only passenger service, nationwide.

    from chatsworth station the round trip was about $26

    gets more expensive the further from SB you get [obviously]

    it is a real nice ride through warner rocks and the santa susanna mountains, you go thru 3 tunnels, some farm land around Saticoy and Oxnard. Then the trip along the coast is real scenic, maybe breathtaking on a clear day when you can see Santa Cruz Island and the other channel islands
