I have an opportunity to spend 3 months next summer there. Work has approved a sabbatical if I choose to take it. I think that it is something that I would always look back on with pride but it may be extremely hard to do.

I have about 2 months to think about it.

I need opinions and thoughts and experience would be appreciated.

But let me ask you this....

Do you want to help or look back in pride?

  4. You would be giving a gift of help.  You would receive in return a rewarding experience.  Most people never have this opportunity, or pass it up.

It is scary though.  Strange place.  Strange diseases.

I reckon it is all worth it.  It'll be life-changing, in a good way.  And you'll score big karma points.

  6. I am in the process of planning a trip to Darfur with a friend who has been twice to work in AIDS orphanages--he says it is a very worthwhile and lifechanging experience to help the little ones.

(The Peace Corp. would accept anyone back then...)
