  1. It's been ages since I've had anything installed, but I do find myself chatting it up locally with Circuit City car audio people then Best Buy car audio people.  Just an opinion, but locally ... CC people know more about their product line whereas BB people seem to just care about if they can sell it to your or not.  Of course, this may vary in your area.

If you choose to get your gear installed at either, base your decision on how good the installer that will do the work is and not the store.  Just as previously answered, there are good and bad installers at these stores.

If any of this is a real concern to you ... it's easy to do yourself.  Nothing beats the satisfaction of your own installation.  Most of what I've learned was based on going back and looking at what the very first car audio installer did and attending car audio competitions.  By talking with other people and seeing what other people did - you kind of "rip off" some of their ideas.  The one tool you have in your favor that I didn't back in the day is the internet.  There's a wealth of good information on here, if you're willing to weed your way through some of the bad.  Anyways, good luck with the install!

  2. You won't get the service or expertise as a dedicated sound shop, but you also won't get the cost.

Of the two, I suggest Circuit City over Best Buy. The staff at Circuit City were more knowledgeable, more prompt, and over all better. The staff at Best buy (at least my local one) were morons. Circuit City has also been the best in most other areas. The only way that I have seen that Best Buy has beat Circuit City (at least in my area) is the variety of things like CDs and DVDs.

  3. I would say it's a judgement call on your behalf. Installers are either good or bad no matter where they choose to work. Ask around to some of the people you know that have had work done. A dedicated stereo shop usualy has a decent insyaller and in todays economoy they are priced pretty close to BB and CC. Don't always just ask for labor prices. A lot of the time best buy will offer "free" installs on their head units and then charge like double the normal price on the dash kit, wiring harness, and antenna adapter. So in the end you end up paying for the insall regardless of where the money was put on the invoice. So just get the whole picture before you make a decision
