Question:

Has anyone ever had an all day get-to-know-you interview?

I am trying to switch careers from Publishing into Marketing/Sales. I have a 2nd interview for an Entry level Account Rep. It will last from 9:30 to 5:30.

It is just me, or does an all day interview, plus 3 total interviews seem like a lot for an entry level thing? My first interview was literally 5 minutes long, so I did not get to ask about salary. I have zero experience in Marketing or Sales, so I was hoping some of you could advise me on what to expect.

  1. This sounds like a job my wife tried out.  First interview was 5 minutes.  Then she was told, "I'm calling the top 5 between 5:30PM and 6PM"  "I only call once, and I don't leave a message."

The next day she spent the day going out with a "Team Leader", basically they were selling items to raise money for Dare.  You do a lot of standing, outside, in front of places like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Best Buy and the like.

The company was legit, but you work strictly on commission, based on how much you sold.

Having had Knee surgery less than 6 months before, all the standing and being in the heat was more than she could handle. If you like people, if you like sales, and want to someday run an office just like that one, then you could do well.  Otherwise you may not want to waste your time.

    Best of luck.

  2. oh boy have I had one heck of an all day interview. long story short, I ended up being chased by the cops for soliciting. after painful blisters and being scared sh--less, I will never do an all day interview.

  3. You got the second interview so that is a good sign.

I ask lots of questions when I interview to put my folks into the correct business opportunity for them.
