I went to the ER last night because I had chest pains, and shortness of breath. They diagnosed acute bronchitis and put me on an antibiotic, a steroid, cough syrup, an inhaler, and Chantix to help me stop smoking. I haven't smoked all day today. I have to go back to work tomorrow and I'm wondering how long the bronchitis will last. Since I used to smoke it will probably take me a little longer to recover right?

  1. I get bronchitis frequently.(4-6 times a year) My episodes usually last 3-4 weeks on average. Some less, some more.

The steroid and the inhaler will help immensely. Also, Ive found standing in a closed up bathroom with the hot water running helps loosen the stuff up and makes it easier to cough up.

  2. I was in the ER a week ago and they said it was Bronchitis.  And I had been coughing/hoarse and feeling cruddy for 2 weeks before I went in to the ER.  I had to go to the ER one night because the coughing just got to the point where I couldn't breathe between coughs and I thought I was gonna die.  So, counting the 2 weeks before I went to the ER, I've been sick for 3 weeks now.  And I'm still coughing and stuff.  I'm on an inhaler and cough syrup.  My mom thinks I'm allergic to one of the 2 meds because I have a rash-like thing all over my chest and stomach now.  So, I'm going back to the doctor Wednesday.  IT NEVER ENDS!  I've heard the cough can last up to 6 weeks tho.
