Question:

Has anyone ever had experience with RAM Golf Clubs?

I got a really great deal on a brand new 17 piece club set by RAM. (The Axial model). This is really the first time I ever heard of this brand, but they apparently have been around since 1947 and was highly recommended by the sales person as a great starter set. I tried doing some research but not much is available online.

Now for $20 more, I can get a brand new for 2008 Top Flite 15-piece set which I know is made by Calloway. Should I stick with the RAM set, or go with Top Flite?

I am in the beginning stages of my golf game.

Thanks for your help.

  1. RAM is a product line of Tommy Armour.

In the U.S. market, RAM only makes their appearance in beginners sets, from what I see.  I would take my chances with the Top Flite set over RAM these days.

I bought a low priced beginner set of RAMs last year, and I thought they were some of the worst clubs I have ever played.   And.. this is coming from someone that has played Dunlops (and shot in the low 80's with them).

You may think you are getting a "really good" deal.. but there will be so many inconsistancies, that in the long run you'll suffer down the road.

  2. Yes.  I bought a starter set of RAM clubs about 2 months ago.  I thought I had done all the necessary research, but I should have dug further.  I ended up buying the cheapest set of clubs I could find and got what I paid for.  The second time to the driving range the top 1/2 of the 4 iron face snapped right off.  The paint on the top of the hybrid chips ever time i use it...there are about 20 little with spots all over the top and sides of the club.

The driver is OK.  And besides the 4 iron the other irons and putter also seem to be ok...althougt this is my first and only set and I have nothing to compare them to.

I have already started looking for a replacement.  But if you have just started playing and don't know if is the game for you $120 is a cheap way to try it out.

  3. Yea I had a set of those years ago.  I believe Tom Watson used to sponsor them.  I would agree with the sales person, they are a great starter set for sure.   Never had a problem with them!   I just started playing more serious myself. I suck horribly.  Its gotta be the hardest game there is.
