  1. I do believe in the banshee and I know of 2 people who have heard her and one who has seen her. These are not people who would just say it for a joke either. The woman who saw her never really recovered from it.

  2. Ahh now Hello,

Here is all I can tell ye of the wailing Banshee, sure 'tis an awful scream! and not one person ever alive would want to hear the soul breakin' screams that arrive before the Banshee arrives and brings ye to ye reward, be it with Angels, or Divils........

If you would like to see the Movie makers version of what a Banshee looks like, May I suggest Dear Reader, You should see the film, from way back in the early 1960s entitled, Darby O'Gill, not such a horror film, as the theme would suggest, more a childrens story, and one of the Stars is Sean Connery, a film made before any James Bond rubbishy movie he took so much pride in appearing in, to the delight of so many movie goers

In the film, Darby O'Gill, an elderly man captures a leprechaun, who is the King of the little leprechauns, and the old man insists on having his three wishes Granted by the 'king' and indeed he is granted many items to improve his impoverished way of life, but is fooled into making a fourth wish and the result is he loses all he wished for from the first three wishes. and the 'king is then able to make his escape from the old man.

Perhaps here I should say no more about the film, as there will be plenty of copies of it in the disney channel. but so I do not leave you wonderin' about the outcome of the movie, I will tell ye this.... The Banshee, Fails to win the soul of our very dear and so lovable old man, and screams off the screen into the cloudy black nights sky, and all turns out well for our heroes both Darby O'Gill and Sean Connery too, who gets gets to marry the beautiful lady that bothers him all through the story....'Tis a lovely story any child over 7 years could enjoy, and his parents too.

But I have to tell you finally, sure, I never heard the Banshees call, and please My God I never will, and hope that neither will you....I hope I have answered your query, and entertained you in some small way too. ...... Good luck now and Heaven Bless you ....................Tony M...............

  3. ive hearld it myself one night and the next day my grandmother had died.

When my mother was little she heard it and her aunt died.

My father heard one the night before his dad died.

Some families are more prone to hear the banshee aparently its old irish familes, im o connor so you cant get more old than that.

The banshee exists simple as that.

  4. My husband has.  I am the banshee.

  5. There was a great doctoral study on the banshee and the families they are associated with that was published about ten years ago.   They usually are part of the oldest families and are only heard or seen at times of death or great trouble.  Most who hear them do not live to tell the tale.

Like many parts of Irish culture and the "old religion" even though we  are modern and have our university degrees we simply believe in the banshee because they exist.  My family has one, so does my husband.  The last time his was heard was at the time of his Grandfathers death in Monaghan.

  6. Oh yes!!! well,  it may have been two baldoons shagging!!!

    Mike/Paddy your poem is cool!!

  7. no...what is a banshee

  8. Once when I was young, 9 or 10, and after visiting with a friend who's parents were really supersticious, and were telling us all about ghosts, banshee's and all sorts, i thought I heard her when I was lying shitless in my bed that night. I told my mother in the morning, after I peeled myself from my sweat soaked sheets, that I thought I heard a Banshee during the night. But she assured me it was probably a fox or something like that and that there was no such thing as a banshee. I'm not so sure though!!!!

  9. banshee bones mmmmmmmm

  10. Something I wrote about her:...................

    The Call of the Banshee.*

‘Tis the call of the Auld Banshee’  she said.

‘To tell us that someone who’s dear is dead’.

She crossed herself and bowed her head,

Then wandered off  slowly to her lonely bed.

As she brushed her hair by the candlelight,

Her mind wandered back to the very first night,

When she saw by the forest, that horrible sight,

Of the Banshee wailing with wild delight.

She had lifted her dress and made a wild dash,

Through the small  stream with many a splash,

The brambles that caused her that terrible rash,

While the thunderstorm roared with a frightening crash.

She reached the small  cottage and found him dead there,

Slumped over  slightly in his old armchair,

She whispered two Ave.’s, ‘Oh God, it’s not fair’.

While the Banshee wailed from her secret lair.

The call of the Banshee, so loud and shrill,

It echoes and sounds around the small hill,

While the rest of the world is peaceful and still,

She remembers that night and forever will.

     Banshee:  Gaelic – Female Fairy:  In Irish folklore, she uses a broken comb to do her long black hair while she wails  telling of a recent death.

  11. yeah theres one dat runs p and down the beach in meath

  12. oh ya its awful its the last thing u wud want to hear i was so unfortunate 2 hear it i havnt recoverd since!!

  13. my husband's Mother did and her hair went white overnight, so she told us

  14. There is no such thing as a banshee. If anyone's hearing things, it's probably a cat.

  15. if i did i wouldnt be answering this!

  16. Indeed I have my mother lovely a she is screams like a banshee whenever anoyed much like most angry Irish ladies! The trick is to stand slightly to their side!

  17. They say that only the Fitzgeralds, Farrells and another family (?), can actually hear the banshee, as she had connections with all three. The banshee only wails when a family member is about to die. There are stories of her sitting outside a persons window wailing and combing her hair which I've been told...

As for the O' Connor lady who said she heard it, maybe it was a cat screaming or fighting because I'm also an O Conor, difference is, my family are only one of two O Conor branches in the country who can be traced back to Rory O Conor who was a high King of Ireland.... and no banshee reports yet!!!!
