  1. First off, find out what you're buying!

Imperial Majesty is likely about a 2, Carnival, Norwegian Cruise Lines, or Royal Caribbean are all 3 stars IMHO. For a really classy, 5 star, "4 seasons resort at sea" you'll need to cruise Crystal or Renaissance.

Next, Imperial Majesty only does 2 day cruises to Nassau and back, Carnival and RCCL do 3, 4, 5 day and longer, NCL is 7 days generally.

My honest opinion is for a first cruise (to get a good taste of what cruising is about) is to do a 4 day cruise on either Carnival or RCCL out of Miami to Key West and Cozumel. This is good beginner's cruise, not so long that you're making a huge commitment, 2 ports and a day at sea. Also both lines have OK ships on these routes (not the newest in the fleet but definitely not the worst)

Imperial Majesty is fine if you have lower expectations, aren't into really good food, and want to spend the day in Nassau. Go in with realistic expectations and you may enjoy it!

However if you've never cruised before and you usually travel and stay in high end hotels, enjoy doing things when and where you want, are a really independent traveler and like privacy, cruising may not be for you. Every cruise line is different, you need to research and find the line that's right for you!

  2. my first cruise was on their Regal Empress back in the mid 80's when it was called the Caribe and owned by Commodore Cruise line. my brother was on her last year and said it is still somewhat "ok". it is no longer a luxury liner by any means. the price is right for their 3 day cruises.
